Religion is just a nice little excuse for humans to justify persecuting and killing one another. The fact is, humans like hating one another. Humanity is constantly builiding walls within itself, wether it be by race, creed, religion, economic status, sexual orientation, left vs. right, man vs. woman, etc. etc. Taking away a certain religion isn't going to change that, everytime we overcome a barrier between us, someone comes along shouting about how we need to build a new barrier. Humans are still animals at heart, and we were doing this crap long before religion came around, and as the South Park Atheism episode showed, we'll be doing it long after religion fades away. We are a complete and utter failure as a whole, and all of the hopeful idealism in the world can never change that.

Agreed

Not you, Dylan. I didn't quotes you. Your big boo-boo was supposing that Atheism could be used as a front for greed and such in the same way as a dogmatic religion. I was just compressing my rants into one post.

For one, I'M NOT A FUCKING ATHEIST. Agnosticism is very different, I think Atheists made just as much of an intellectual faux pas as fundies.

Atheists can be jerks, but then it doesn't matter that they are Atheists unless they do it for Atheism, does it? Religion can be used as a front for something, Atheism can't. If they had political motives, their Atheism is irrelevant, especially if their motives are obvious. Hitler was a (shoddy) vegetarian, but it had nothing to do with his deeds.

Compare and contrast the onlyAtheist Pro-Life League there iswith the barrage of religious Pro-Life groups and smell the difference. The Atheists can't say that God loves life, or that Mother Theresa said that the loss of any child was horrible, but have to rely on evidence and some bits of non-religious, society-wide ethical mores such as "the inherent value of all life". They oppose the actions of many religious pro-life groups (abortion-related violence for example) as much as they oppose abortion.

I'm not getting offended, I just think you repeatedly fail to understand what others have said in this thread already. It just happens that when talk of how bad religion is pops up, someone inevitably badmouths Atheism, as if it's a religion. I have no clue why they do it. Is it an attempt to equalize all belief systems and make them all look bad? Make belief systems irrelevant?

I think faith can be alright, but rigid, unbendable dogma beyond a few timeless principles is a great evil. "Love your fellow human being" sounds good, but "kill your kids if they fuck up" doesn't fit in with it. That way I can pop out an unwanted kid, abuse him physically and emotionally until he or she misbehaves, and then take them to get them stoned to death. Kind of a lengthy abortion.

I'm just ranting at everyone who said anything I don't quite agree with here, amalgamating them into one big religious group.

And are you agnostic about the Easter Bunny? Perhaps you want to be a sceptic and leave that inconsequential shred of possibility, but I would assume that your doubt is strong enough for you to claim that you do not believe in the Easter Bunny.

I wouldn't call that an intellectual faux pas though. Compare that to my atheism, and assume I have enough reason to view the possibility as unlikely as any. Perhaps there exists that miniscule degree of sceptic possibility, but it is inconsequential -- enough to call myself an atheist, a hard-line atheist even.

I'm cooler than you, because I can draw comparisons from vaguely relevant metaphors and use them to prove my positions superiority. Yes.

Aliens would be a better comparison. Do they exist? Well, there's some evolutionary possibility. On the whole though, I doubt it.

Let's also get all intellectual and draw a line in the sand: if the existence of a godly being was proven, real scientific evidence, would you worship it? I wouldn't.

It depends. A god of the Abrahamic religions? You would be bound to worship that, if proven.

I wouldn't worship if it turned out to be just a life force instead of some dogma pushing white bearded guy in the sky, why would I? I'd give him a thumbs up though.

speaking of retarded muslims...

for third time in two year PET, a police department dealing with national security in Denmark, has arrested muslims planning terror. It actually pisses me off. If they hate our country that much they could just get the fuck out of here and go back to their own shitty country. Sure the media is not always that nice towards muslims, but islamic terrorism does't help one bit - it only makes it all worse. I also know some of the involved still are pissed off about the drawings.. fucking stupid. I also believe to have read in the news that one of them already had been in jail for 7 years for planning terror. Where is death penalty when you need it?

i think we should send airplanes across the middle east showering them all in flyers showing Muhammed get fucked in the arse by Jesus, who get fucked in the mouth by Bush and sitting on a ladder above is Buddha who craps on everyone with stinky poo.
That should teach them a thing or two.

Yes, I am Agnostic towards the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Fairies In The Bottom of The Garden and that dude who always tries to save his lucky charms. Like Isaac Asimov and many others, I'm an intellectual Agnostic and intuitive Atheist.

Atheism maybe isn't as absolute as you think it is, and I would suggest that perhaps you're qualifiable.

indeed. Typical Hollywood-movie-crap

" My wife died in a carcrash along with my only son", the man said with sorrow in his voice.

" It's God. He is testing your faith! You must be strong!", the other guy said to comfort him.

" Yes, wow. Never though about that way! So God killed my wife and only son... Now i feel much better", the man said happy as ever... and when he got home he run up a small hill with his arms in the air. " I belieeeeeveeee... wooh0000!!!"

Is it bad when I be all ironic and say religiously intolerant things, not being serious, and my mother genuinely agrees?
