Great review. Though I'd have personally given a higher score, I agreed with everything the review said.

what you said about the music having a darker side to it or letting you back to the world sucking reminded me of this music video. i always thought the song was a happy one then i watched the music video and now i think its really depressing

good album though, although i think i'll have to wait until next spring to really enjoy it because its definitely not fall or winter music

It was extremely boring for me, although at some parts interesting but not something I would play many times...

I'm listening to this album now and I still think Neige is lying when he says he wasn't aware of the shoegaze scene

The really interesting thing about this album is that it almost sounds like balck metal being used for good rather than evil. It's got all the required fuzzy tremelo riffs and even a few blastbeats, but yet couldn't be likened to anything remotely considered black metal.

That's quite an interesting point made in the review. Many people who I've played the album to who weren't aware of Neige's intentions found the music quite sad and melancholic. I've never found that in the album at all personally.

Certain albums require certain moods. *nod nod* Give it a try when you're feeling like shit. Might be truly uplifting. Or something to accompany you whilst you gaze up at the ceiling. Or down at your shoe. Lawl.

haven't heard it yet.

but.. i think Niege would feel misunderstood if ppl said that this album is a tribute to life and happy happy feelings. As i understand him he is all about nostalgy, childhood memories etc. He is also portraying the innocence of children, and thus he basicly thinks adults/his adult life is poob and therefore wants to be a child again- all happy happy.

at least he has said himself that alot of ppl misunderstand his music.

and Alex.. he's is still playing black metal in Peste Noire

Well, I'm glad Neige made such a cool progression.

That would be true. I liked how you quoted Neige's interpretation of his music. I look at my children sometimes and feel that childhood is truly the only time when we are probably happy.

80 for me, 'cause the last three songs aren't as good as the first ones. Les Iris and Souvernirs d'un autre monde being my fav tunes on this one.

If Agalloch's Pale Folklore can score a 90 on this site, then Souvenirs deserves a 99.
