Hmmm... overquoted, but still a very good release. I think they lost it on the second half of this record. I mean the tracks just got less memorable after the first six or seven. Still a solid release, they are yet to disappoint me.

Good cd bit of a mixed bag some real stand out tracks and overall would give it 79/100.

Mmmm, is it just me or has this bands sound gotten a lot softer?

The first album I got from NR was 'Afterlife' which totally blew me away with it's heavy aggressive raw edge. Albums after that seemed to get progressively softer and much more polished. Especially on 'NWM' and 'GI'.

I have heard the first 4 songs off the album and while I do still like them I really miss the 'Afterlife' and to some extent 'Shadowland' sound. I mean they sound so sugary sweet that they sometimes remind me of 80's bands like Warrant or Poision.

Anyway Johnny is a truely incredible singer and from what I have heard of this album his performance is as amazing as ever.

I guess I like them more in a guilty pleasure type fashion now.

Afterlife is the only good post Zackrisson NR album. They traded originality and guitar intricacy with awesome vocals....for standard power metal crap that is generic in every sense of the word. At least Afterlife was heavy and still had some traces of the old NR. This new stuff is a garbage.

I loved Grand Illusion, but I'm going to be trashing this big pile of shit on my upcoming MCDR review.

Metal without riffs = not fucking metal! :lame:

40/100

Yikes!

I still think this is a solid catchy hard rock/metal album.

Some decent songs mixed with some Evanesence songs. Lindqvist is carrying this band, without him this album would be absolutely nothing.

This is one of those bands where they release an album every year it seems and i'll never check them out. No interest at all.

Those two comments express my feelings as well. A very solid album but with a few mediocre songs. If I were to judge songs separately I'd say that most of the songs are on the 85-95 scale with a few around 65-75 that spoil the album. Still, it's very enjoyable and I like to listen to this album as with some other NR albums that I have. 85/100

This album is purely horrendous. Would be the worst power metal album of the year if not for the new Twilightning. It's built entirely on cheap pop hooks, and at the same time manages to be completely forgettable. I agree with Radagast, the vocalist is the sole good thing about it.

Just as good as anything from Nocturnal Rites since Afterlife, some great tunes and some fillers. I'd say this is their best since Shadowland, though.
