The poll question is pretty straightforward - What score would you give metalreviews?

Now for some others:

How many bands have you discovered soley because of an interesting review you saw here?

How important do you think sites like this are in the metal world?

What site that you regularly visit has the most accurate and most well written reviews?

Feel free to answer any of those or ignore them and vote. Just trying to throw an interesting thread idea out there.

I voted pretty good. I think occasionally the scoring is on the high side, but that's understandable and fairly constant throughout the internets. I don't really go to any other sites besides sonicfrontiers (that I write for) and rateyourmusic.com, neither of which are exactly comparable to here.

no idea on exact number of bands i've discovered here, but I know it's been a bunch

my only gripe is with certain reviewers, i prefer Misha's "to the point" style but most people here don't seem to like that much.

I voted very good (80-89) because I actually have some minor gripes and don't have a MR mug

Of all the bands that I have discovered during the last couple of years almost 80% is due to this site. Maybe I've heard of many of them before but I never got into the trouble of checking them out before I read something about them in the reviews or the forum here.

My personal opinion is that such websites (and magazines) are hugely important for people interested in metal. Because it's not a mainstream genre of music, information becomes rare and thus more valuable.

As for other websites, I can't say I visit any as regularly as MR. I trust the accuracy and rating of most MR reviews & reviewers and I have learned to accept the reviews as personal opinions and trust my judgement in order to get as much information as possible from them.

Does MR actually produce mugs, or was that a joke? It's a good idea if the latter...

80-89 range. MR.com has improved tremendously, particularly over the last four or so years. The reviews are now much better written and more informative. Plus, the reviewers are no longer afraid to give low scores to much-hyped albums if necessary. The review scores still tend to be a little too high at times. But, otherwise, beautiful.

'Tis no joke. Click "Media" on the homepage menu.

80-89. I think MR is one of the best sites around. It's got good material featured plus, as media student, attractive and well designed. I've come across several sites that really torture your eyes with outrageous colours.

As for the few gripes, I think it's not a big problem, although I feel it could be improved, especially the news section. It should be updated more frequently.

I've come across many, many bands just from MR, but I can't recollect who they were. MR has done a great job, keep up the good work!!

pretty good. i strated with metalcrypt.com and have probably gotten a few more bands from there. but i've found some gems here to like entwine and nightingale.

teh only thing is that pretty mediocre bands from my point of view often get a high score. i always check out every band with a good review and a good score, but i am often let down. for example by cage , vanishing point and iced earth.

80-89 for me. Just minor gripes that really aren't a big problem.

voted very good:
although the time that i would visit this site over 10 times a day are over, i still find it very useful and cool if you don't pay attention to the drama. This is also the forum i've been visiting the longest and the most by far.

Voted very good. I would have given it a higher score if it wasn't for some tremendous reviews such as Gorguts, Cryptopsy and some others.

I voted Very Good. I do think the scoring system needs to be re-evaluated. I mean by the criteria listed, scoring something in the 60-70 range still means "Very good album" and yet everything the reviewers happen to like gets 80-100 all of the time. I think the high scores should be reserved for truly ground-breaking stuff, or stuff that just completely reeks of awesomeness.

Do you mean that we are missing some reviews by those artists ( I know we are missing "None So Vile", that needs a classic place here), or that the reviews that we do have of them aren't very good?

My only complaint is that there are too many albums that rate in the mid-80's and in the 90's. Other than that, it's good work.

I voted 70. Pretty good. There is room for improvement.

I have discovered a few bands but I've learned tons more from the forum here.

Metal sites are very improtant. They're my only connection to the metal stuff.

Vempire-reviews.com Simply godly, great underground stuff never escape their attention. Famous bands albums get reviewed instantly.

I'd say MR is my second favorite but I think a bigger staff covering different genres, reviewing all major albums that come out as soon as possible, would make this site much better.

80-89 for me (Though probably more like 87-89). I think this is an awesome site and I've discovered something like.. 70-80% of my bands here. My only problems with it are minor things like: far too generous scores, the weird genre tagging makes searching for bands/albums hard sometimes, lack of Savatage reviews hurts any site.

Among metal fans I believe these sites are very importent. I mean where else will we all talk about metal? With our families? Pffft, like they know whats good (well some might..).

I visit some other sites once in awhile just to see different opinions on albums but I dont take part in any other forums.

Seriously though, review more Savatage. :dio:

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also love the fact that this site doesn't review strictly metal, but also albums a metal fan might enjoy.

Yeah, a bigger staff would really help out a lot. It's just really, really, really difficult to find even a dozen people who can not just write good reviews, but produce them on a weekly basis. I think it would be really cool if the homepage said "20" or even "15" new reviews with every update. As it stands, I think the record is at 16 reviews, which was the first week of November, 2006.
