Mithras
Definitely, they have some really strange, yet very intersting solos.

Meshuggah is another choice, but they won't sound like any of hte other bands on this list. Mithras sounds like the guitar player is on acid, while Meshuggah sounds like a computer is on acid.

I'm shocked no one mentioned Blind Guardian. Some of the most hummable solos this side of power metal.

ooooooo..... I'll have to agree with this statment. Hibria are one of the best bands out there period.

well i dont like solos without the "feeling". thats maybe because im a guitar player myself... i do not consider newer dream theater solos very good either. but i like petrucci's solo work. suspended animation is good.

+1

Petrucci's recent soloing is sounding too cold and sterile for me as well.

Drukh's latest has some amazing leads, in fact their last 3 full lengths do, Windir always had great leads and solos, and anything featuring Ihsahn has great lead work.

Hey, I love the solo towards the end of This Dying Soul.

The newer solos is OK....not great, except the spirit carries on, which is just fantastic.

One of their best solos, IMO...

I agree that the Systematic Chaos solos were lacking, and but Octavarium didn't even have that many solos. Some Train of Thought solos were definitely pretty "eh", but there are some great ones too, like the aforementioned This Dying Soul. ...and everything on SFAM is awesome.

Just thought I'd also mention Depressive Age because their guitarists have some of the coolest thrash solos I've heard.

Well if you ask me, Cradle era 'Dusk...' and 'Cruelty..' had some good, dark solos. 'Funeral of Carpathia' is definitely Cradle's best song with a solo in it. Very Maiden-ish.

I've never heard cruelty.... but when I'm listening to Dusk... i notice the cool riffs more than the solos.

And yes, I LIKE Dusk and her embrace.......not very kvlt but i dont care :P

You should listen to to 'Cruelty...' man. Although I do feel 'Dusk..' was better, 'Cruelty...' had more story to it. Plus it was melodic. Gian Piras and Stuart were the best axemen combo they've had. Check out 'Desire in Violent Overture' from 'Cruelty..''.
