Ick. People who say this is better than Octavarium are crazy.

Compared to the previous, aforementioned album, this sounds very bland and lifeless -- hardly like "systematic chaos". More like a "plodding void".

Leave the chaos to Meshuggah, DT. Get Kevin Moore back and cut the bullshit.

Hmmm. Sounds like Systematic Chaos was a response to fans who found Octavarium too soft, as Octavarium was a response to those who found TOT too heavy. I personally really like the new album. I find it interesting that DT have always been able to divide their fans with each release, with some prefer the heavier albums, and some prefering the softer. I think they're at their best when they get the balance between the two, like on Scenes From A Memory.

They had everything balanced out on Six Degrees, as well.

And Octavarium wasn't THAT soft. I haven't a clue what other DT fans are talking about, but it was relatively heavy in some areas. And the softness that I could find worked extremely well in the title track. If it was entirely heavy, it wouldn't have the same effect, IMO.

I'm hoping this is just a misstep for these guys. The last thing I want to hear is a Slipknot-esque DT (should they progress in that direction).

Octavarium had a couple of heavy songs like Panic Attack, but it also had a lot of stuff like I Walk Beside You. The title track is fantastic though. I don't think they'd ever go in a Slipknot direction, unless they wanted to lose their entire fanbase.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. As inane as it sounds, there's always that chance...

As I've said before, a new DT album always divides fans. It'll be interesting to see whose side they go for with the next one. By the way, Octavarius, seeing DT on this tour?

...Yeah, I'm not too crazy about this one.

LaBrie just seems to get more annoying with each successive release. I don't know how he can get much more annoying than that pompus nasally whine during the chorus of Constant Motion.

And this whole CD seems pretty underwhelming overall. :\

Doubt it. I don't have the money to travel around, and I still feel a little uneasy about mosh pits...

I hear ya. This time around, it seemed like they all focused on plodding along, rather than being outright crazy (like on Scenes From A Memory).

I miss their uber-masturbatory moments...

Moshing is great cathartic fun.

But you'd really be hardpressed to find a mosh pit at a Dream Theater concert.

Judging from clips of their shows, it seems like everyone's just kinda standing around.

Still, I don't gots the money...

Personally, I like both styles, but I love it when they go heavy, it's probably when I like LaBrie's vocals the most.

the new dream theater is amazing...

why the fuck would you be scared of a mosh pit, its not like the whole audience is going to be pushing you into the pit.

I guess I'm a sad excuse for a metalhead, then.

Probably because he busted his balls n' fingers to the overblown max on Train Of Thought and has since moderated at least a bit

Everybody says that, but I don't hear it. What about that bit on This Dying Soul? I'm surprised they didn't get a call from Lar$' lawyer.

I know that they're big fans of Metallica, but come on. They should go back to sounding like themselves again...

They've always worn their influences ahem, "rather prominetly". If the music's good, I'm not too bothered about whether it's the most original. And besides, Dream Theater have produced far more good albums than Metallica, I think we can all agree on that.

Their influences weren't as prominent on the first three albums. At least, I can't hear anything prominent.
