Sharia law is rough. Not changing laws after over 1300 years obviously makes them sound harsh but its how they do. In the teacher's case, if you're going to live in a different country, learning the laws and culture should be common sense.

In Western culture, Christianity can be pretty ridiculous but it isn't as prominent as Islam is in their culture. Honestly, western people should completely avoid Islamic culture. I'm all for a Nation of Islam-like segregation between the two cultures. This probably sounds bigoted or close-minded but during my pondering, I can't imagine any reconciliation between Christianity and Islam, ie: Western culture and Islamic culture. The cultures are too much of opposites and adverse to each other.

She should have the sense to know that it wouldn't be appropriate. If the kids voted to name the bear Shithead, I think she would realize that it wouldn't have been appropriate.

Islam believes that the art, idols and pictures that Christianity and Judaism made deterred from the worship of the original god is exactly what required Islam to come and replace the originals. Fucking with idolatry and depictions of Mohammad has never been and never will be cool, ex: Dutch cartoons.

I sort of agree. Islam really needs to get out of the middle ages mindset (as the vast maj. of western Muslims have done). I think they can live alongside Christians, though. They're just a bit easy to get whipped up.

And obviously it's different than if she'd called it 'shithead'! You go back to Europe in the 15th century and call a doll 'Christ', see what kind of response you get.

I try to be tolerant of Islam but when you simply state what happens in Muslim countries, (raped woman sentenced to lashes, woman imprisoned for naming a teddy bear, riots over a newspaper cartoon printed 6 monthes prior) it makes them sound like irrational morons. I understand that "westernized" Muslims aren't as radical as Middle Eastern living Muslims. But like my judgment of Christians, I judge the most extreme case.

This should shift from a Muslim hate thread to a religion hate thread, ie: what the fuck is with Christianity trying to protest The Golden Compass? Can't people criticize or oppose anything anymore?
