how good is this band? Do they have any great songs other than Final Countdown?

their early albums are classic 80's hard rock, a lot heavier than Final Countdown was... then, they did a few good songs on each album (regardless of the shitty commercial production) until they broke up...
their newer album tries to put a more modern edge to their music (grungie & nu metal guitars :? ) and partly succeeds... still the band is hardly recognizable as Joey Tempest's voice has grown older and the keyboards are very low in the mix... worth a try if you're in melodic metal though...

for you, the best way to judge this band would be to listen to their 2cd best of which includes all their hits plus their fav' songs... not bad but not great either....

At least he has eyes to roll...
Seriously, aren't Europe commercial soft rock (someone'll flame me now for not knowing about their 'undergorund days' )?
Don't like 'em.

The Final Countdown always gives me a boost like I'm in a new year party. Norther's cover version is also kickass.

I'd never heard any Europe (other than the blatantly obvious) until I went to Sweden Rock last year and decided to give them a chance - last band of the festival and all that - and I had a great time, thought they were really good. Songs like Scream of Anger show a more Metal edge, but really its party rock...and when it's done properly there's nothing wrong with it.

Good band. Dunno about their work from Prisoners in Paradise and later. But I've listened to quite a few tracks from this band. Final Countdown, Rock the night, scream of anger, ninja and how can i forget, seven doors hotel and many more. Lot of good stuff this band had to offer. Check out their older stuff. Excellent hard rock.

the final countdown strikes me of a song that easily could of been awesome with some alterations. give the guitar more edge a lil faster, speed up and bring down the volume of the keyboards and it might go from bein silly to cool.

the other songs i have heard from them have been from that same album, and there not to great either imo

Early albums have excellent ballads. For those into Ballads (similar to scorpions) then you guys may like them. There more upbeat songs are ok. I think Prisoners in Paradise is the best album. A lot of power metal I believe has been influenced by this band in some way, at least the "happier" bands.

"Europe" is one of the first rock bands I started to listen to when I was younger (well, maybe 10 years ago...) and I really liked it at that time !!! Right now, I don't listen to that anymore (well, the truth: maybe only "once in a while"...when I feel like I want to remember some good memories.) But "The Final Countdown" is great !!! There are also some good ballads like "Carrie" that was very popular in 1987, and stronger songs. "Cherokee" is a good one though. Anyway. I have their Greatest Hits (yes,) and it's all good. It's just that I don't llisten to it so much anymore...I'm more into power...hahahahaha...

The perfect Europe compilation is the bootleg off their comeback gig at Sweden Rock '04. I love nearly every song they played.
