For those who want to give it a try, here's their myspace link:

I personally didn't like it much. I'm not a huge fan of early Black Sabbath works and I'm not so acquainted with Jazz either. So on one hand it's the music that doesn't give me much in this one, on the other there's something behind this (the mentality of the whole idea maybe?) that doesn't allow me to believe that it's the work of true Black Sabbath fans born out of genuine love for the band's earliest works.

From the three songs I heard, I liked Planet Caravan the most, I don't think any version-cover of that brilliant song can go wrong. The song Black Sabbath was good in the first 5 minutes when they were playing quite free and out of form but when the fast part is supposed to come in, at around 05:30 then the discordance and whole whole noise they produce makes no sense. Even from an impressionistic point of view it feels quite misplaced and either I or them have not understood the whole point of the song. Never say die sounds like a satyrical travesty and not a cover-tribute. Are they making fun of Ozzy? If so then that just proves they are not serious about their work and genuine fans of the band. If they are not making fun of the song, then I simply disagree with their view and rendition of it.

Your take on this is quite interesting - are they dedicated fans or simply have picked a band and an era to practice their skills/art? A lot of this stuff flew over my head for sure, but I didn't feel like they are "making fun of Ozzy". Planet Caravan is my fav cover on this collection as well, and I pointed that out I believe.

Yeah, you did point this out in the review and I'm sure anybody will agree that their cover is indeed really inspired and addictive. As for my assumptions (which they are), I have to repeat that it's just a possibility or an impression I got that is solely based on the few songs I heard at their myspace page. I'm not a negative person and those guys might be real fans and big followers of everything Black-Sabbath, it's just that they didn't really persuade me about it.

By the way, great find. I like when there's a different kind of music thrown randomly into the weekly mass of death, doom, thrash, power and prog that we usually read. I like those ofcourse, I mean that's the reason I visit this website daily, but a little variety is always good and interesting!
