No fucking way. Muse? Aw yeah, you totally caught me off guard, Zad.

I agree with pretty much everything you said (but that's not unusual). However, I do think that Starlight is a killing song, more so than Supermassive Black Hole...

Now, I wonder if we can squeeze in a Radiohead review?

I've only heard Knights of Cydonia, but it's a cool song. Not good enough to make me want the album, though, especially if it's supposedly the best.

It's certainly the most immediate. Check the MySpace vids out and keep an open mind.

And Muse is progressive, just not Prog. I'll take Mike Portnoy and Rick Wakeman's word over yours any day, Kenny babe. No offence.

Plus, Muse is listed on Prog-archives.com, which is enough for me.

I have to side with Ken. I haven't heard much in the way of Prog from them at all. I don't care what Portnoy, Wakeman, or Progarchives says.

How is it not progressive?

How is it progressive? is the question.

And Zad, you can't be progressive without being prog, and vice versa. A band that is creative in their art isn't necessarily progressive.

And prog-archives is a complete farce. Shocking that a website that is plastered with advertisements would add an extremely popular band like Muse to their site and call them "prog."

Nah, I disagree. "Prog" is a genre, a definite type of music that evolved around a select group of bands - Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, etc. Being "progressive" means that you're experimental with your songwriting, open-minded, and not necessarily influenced by the Prog bands - although I think Muse is influenced by them a little, esp Hawkwind as regards the spacey keyboards. There's Radiohead influence as well, aren't they accepted as being progressive? It's all dependant on your perception, ultimately. In my view, a band doesn't need to have more time changes than Meshuggah in a single song in order to be progressive... Muse is ultimately accepted by people as being a progressive band, and that's how it goes.

And since when is Prog-Archives not popularist? Bless 'em, they're hardly anus dot com...

Good band, doesn't belong here though. I also agree they aren't Prog.

If Coheed & Cambria belong here and are prog, then Muse certainly does and is.

People really need to loosen up. If shit like Bon Jovi (which is not metal at all) can be reviewed here, then so can Muse.

Hurumph, I say.

It's not like I'm upset or uptight about it, it's just my opinion. Anyway, you're probably right Zad.

Your girlfriend has good taste then.

I thought this album was a worthy follow up to Absolution, though not quite as good in my opinion. I added my score.

Hear hear. For example even if you thought Opeth were a completely unoriginal and unprogressive band, you may still call them prog metal because their sound is very reminiscent of prog rock. Prog as a genre name is different from the general adjective "progressive", and ironically could refer to something quite hackneyed and old fashioned.

So did my ex! I love you Zad, remember this is my opinion, but I think this is the first time I've disagreed with anything you've written.

This album is wank! Their worst by miles and just another step for Muse to gridlock the UK alternative chart whilst still selling enough albums to make a living. In other words this album is far from metal and is a misguided attempt to be 'artistic' in the UK pop-rock scene.

Admittedly 'Knights of Cydonia' is arguably the best thing they have ever done, song wise, but the shitty electro-disco that runs through several other songs just makes the ambience of the album simply balls. Earlier Muse albums sustained interest by possessing killer riffs, but, 1 song aside, I find this contrived bollocks designed to bother the charts.

In addition, I hate his voice! Arguably more than any other singer in the pop/rock genre (possibly in my top-ten all genre covering). Screechy, whiney little bitch!
