People are loving this album so much, I had to see what it was about. Been listening for about a week now. It's decent - the Cam dude has great voice, but I don't see the need for the other guy with the death metal screaming. Ruins it for me. It's like, here's all this soaring vocal melody, and then Boom! That other guy comes in and ruins it.

Disagree. First off, they're not death metal vocals, second I think he fits perfect. It puts more aggresion in the music, plus I like harsh vocals.

Semantics. At what point do "harsh" vocals become classified as death metal vocals? (or, death metal "styled" vocals?)

Second, I think not only does it not fit perfect, it f's the whole thing up they have going on.
Textbook death metal vocals have a very low, guttural tone. Think Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Bloodbath, or Opeth when they aren't being emotional.

I dont see whats gimmicky about em. Whats the gimmick? Good music?

Nah, I think it's more of the "Hey, look, we're a new band that sounds really old-school" that gets to me... It's like they're trying too hard to sound old-school. :\

You got any quotes from them to back this up?

I've only ever seen statements from about being "old school" in reponse to questions. If their bullshit-mongering label wants to promote them as the tr00est oldskoolest band of all timez they can't really do much about it.

3 Inches of Blood are an easy target. I wonder how differently it would have turned out if that photoshoot from a few years back where a couple of them (mostly no longer in the band) were pictured with - shock - short hair and hoodies had never happened.

I think Cam Pipes is one of the most metal looking men in metal, next to whats-his-face from Amon Amarth. I'm going to see these guys live in early November, and I hope it tears my fucking face off. It'll be my first live show and they're (as far as I can remember) the only metal band that actually makes me energetic.

I wonder if constantly wearing very short hair and a KMFDM hoodie makes me un-metal. Guess I better start listening to Beyond The Horizon.

EDIT: Bring Me The Horizon. Maybe I'm getting old.
