I'm officially a geek. Downloaded a SNES emulator and Mario All-Stars the other day and have been playing Mario Bros 3 ever since. It's an annoying bastard of a game, but is so addictive. Emboldened by my success there, also grabbed an N64 one and Goldeneye, which I thought was ridiculously easy until I realised I kept putting it on the Easy setting. Duh, that's what happens when you don't play games for a couple of years then start again.
N64heads: Quake 2 or Quake 64? And are there any other recc's for games to check out (apart from Ocarina Of Time and Mariokart 64) that I missed last time because my parents wouldn't get me a console?
Personally, I'd go with the PC versions of those two games. Though, unless you have a computer with an operating system older than Windows XP (and an old video card - many games from the late-90's are not compatible with more recent cards), your chances of being able to run them may be fairly slim. So, in that case, Quake 2 for N64 is probably the better of the two games.
Anyway, as Azrael pointed out, Excitebike 64's a very good game. But I also recommend Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask (play Ocarina of Time first, though), the Banjo-Kazooie series, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars Episode 1: Battle For Naboo, Turok 2, 1080 Snowboarding. Fuck, there were a lot of great games on the N64. Much more than a lot of people give it credit for.
You could probably find an actual system on Ebay or Half.com for about $30. I'd suggest buying one since a lot of N64 games really don't play very well on a keyboard.
