This album was a bit disappointing, Blood in our Wells was already a bit of a step down, but this is down even further. They need to live a time in the woods to gain inspiration again... :lame:

What? Blood in Our Wells was the pinnacle of their career. This one although is indeed a big step down.

I really liked Autumn Aurora but found The Swan Road to be very disappointing, I really don´t like it at all. Tried for awhile but failed to hear anything interesting. I guess I wont like this either, but I might have to give it a chance.

Autumn Aurora or Forgotten Legends will be a good start

Drudkh never disappoints. 90/100 for me.

Damn, a new CD already? I'm still absorbing the last one. Didn't realize they were so prompt.

Great review. I don't understand the criticism this album gets. It's more or less on the same level with the rest of them. More of the same, but not the same as before, very well put. Autumn Aurora and Blood In Our Wells are still my favourites, but Estrangement is pretty good too.

Being honest, on the first couple of listens it doesn’t sound at all as if the band is progressing, and you never really get that impression – this album is more of the same, but is definitely not the same as before. A step sideways rather than a step forward, making it understandable that people have been having reservations about Estrangement.

Agreed with this. Didn't really see the point in this album when I first heard it, but this review has reminded me to give it another try.

To this day I've only heard Autumn Aurora and The Swan Road. I still hold Autumn Aurora as one of my all time favorite black metal albums.

See but then they try something different or new and everyone bitches and yell that they sold out.

That being said I only have the two previous, haven't given this one a go.

They didn't do something different. Blood in Our Wells was something different but it was the best one, this misses the energy the past albums had.

Interesting there are so many replies to this, when Songs Of Grief went virtually unnoticed...

I heard this album a little while ago. I wasn't too impressed. To me it sounded exactly like the other albums... so basicly I haven't heard it since... too "meh".

Blood in Our Wells and Autumn Aurora are imo among the best of his works

I haven't heard songs of grief. The idea of them exploring their folky side didn't excite me too much.

Exactly right, maybe if the Evil Dead had heard this he would realise that instead of assuming he knows why people don't like it?

Nobody here has accused them of selling out, or are you referring to other forums?
