Slania's Song is probably the best example of what the band were trying to go for here. It's here that the band do a proper attempt at mixing folk and melodic death metal, with the bagpipes and hurdy-gurdys feeling like an integral part of the music, rather than merely an addition to it.

Yes.

This band's biggest problem is that they don't blend the two elements very well. It just sound sosrt of thrown together, at least sometimes.

Hey Radagast we were complaining about this a couple of weeks ago :)

Anyway thanks for this review James, I agree with the score and also agree with Radagast's comment.

Funny, this is actually the main band of the Forest Of Fog guy that you probably have heard me rant about for a long time.

Good band. I need to check this one out, and FoF is amazing.

I know you guys told me this before on another post but the Forest of Fog guy is this band's guitarist or vocalist?

Forest of Fog are (is?) a lot better, but then it's a totally different sort of metal.

Every week it seems like there's a new raft of bands with slick, shiny, soulless cover art, a slick, shiny, soulless production job, and an album's worth of unused In Flames and At The Gates riffs.

No other style of metal has the issue of following in the footsteps of other bands in any way. At all. :)

That bit aside, the score is solid as is the album.

The singer sounds uncomfortably like Anders, at times...
