Post subject: Hit or Miss: Heavy Metal (the 1981 movie)?

As I mentioned in the Films Recently Watched thread, I saw this movie for the first time just this afternoon. What are your thoughts on it?

In-Between, for me. I basically feel the same way about it that I felt about Scary Movie when I saw it a long time ago. It's not at all something I regret watching. But it isn't really something I'd watch a second time, either. It's one of those "You watch it once out of curiosity, but more-or-less forget about it later" movies, for me. Even though I acknowledge its big influence on today's adult animation (Beavis and Butt-Head, in particular, owes a lot to this movie).

The full-length movie is right here, if you'd like to see it:

Being that this is a metal forum, I'm actually surprised there aren't more people who have seen this movie.

Before I saw this movie, I had heard very little about it - I knew that it had heavy metal music and that was about it. Based on this premise, I thought it'd be a fun movie to watch with my fiancee (we both like metal). I was a bit surprised (and embarassed) when naked cartoon woman after naked cartoon woman had sex on screen. She wasn't offended or anything, but it was a little awkward for me.

Despite that, I'd rank it as in between. Some of the story lines were interesting/fun, and others were boring. In particular, I thought the last one dragged on for a really long time - especially the flying scene.

Isn't there an older live-action Heavy Metal?

I voted miss, but I ment to vote in between. It's ok, but some of it is so damn stupid. I love what spawned off of it though. Beavis and Butthead :dio:

The best part of Beavis and Butthead for me is watching all the old 90s alt-rock videos I vaguely remember from my youth, back when we had MTV.

I'd say in between. I've only seen the movie once, and it was probably 7-8 years ago and it didn't click nor do I have the desire to see it again.

The animation was pretty tight but I couldn't get into the stories. Definitely better than that newer Heavy Metal they made though.
