So recently when I've been downloading stuff onto a big flash drive (2GB) I've been getting lots of corrupt files and 'cyclic redundancy' errors. I doubt my sources have suddenly taken a nosedive in quality, so:

1. is the problem that my drive is getting old?
2. can this be fixed or do I need a new one?

Usually when you start getting corrupt files it's a sign that the drive is about to fail. It's not fixable, but you could probably keep using it for a while if you scandisk it everytime it starts messing up. That's what I did the last time one of my disks were failing.

Yep it seems some sectors of your drive are KOd, time to get a new one.

Possibly format it to ignore bad sectors?

flash memory has a finite number of erase-write cycles so if you've been using it a lot, it might explain the failures you are getting. In that state it's better for you to replace it especially if you use to transport sensitive data.

Tried scandisking, didn't help. Looks like a new one's in order.

Thanks for replies, all.
