Faffel, I'm the idiot? LOL! You said your pecker isn't important in a discussion about gender and that's what makes you a man!

Actually, Bastard, your chromosomes determine your sex, not your physical characteristics. You can build tits and a cooch on a bio male, but it won't change hir genes, nor hir sex. It changes hir/her gender, but that's a separate question.

Your sexuality and your gender do not go hand-in-hand - if that were true, half of all gay men would end up transitioning and insist on being called "she." Gender is a social construct, not an inborn set of characteristics. It's our societies that tell us what a "man" and a "woman" have to do. As Sasheron mentioned, there have been times in history when men have worn makeup as a norm, and now in Western culture, it's practically taboo for men to do so. I know meek and hysterical men and stoic and violent women, never mind that social stereotype says their personalities don't fit their crotches.

If you want further proof that sexuality and gender aren't interdependent, look at me. I'm as straight as they come (a lesbian friend of mine laughed at me after I complained about the surfeit of female models in a drawing class; "I'm so tired of boobs!") and I don't give a rat's ass about adhering to my role as a woman. I've never worn lipstick except as part of stage makeup, and I've tried (and failed because the Western medical establishment sucks) to get my tubes tied. Hell, I'd get an entire hysterectomy if it wouldn't completely ravage my body. So much for having children being the ultimate experience for me "as a woman." (And please, one of you misogynistic fools claim this as proof that I'm somehow aberrant and thus not to be listened to - it will only prove my point about social stereotypes.)

We must listen to Metalhead_Bastard instead, for his depth of understanding concerning gender issues is astounding.

Surprisingly enough Zad, I almost never ever let someone's appearance judge my initial reaction to them. Unless they look like a fucking crackhead or have track marks up and down their arms. Then they can go rot in a ditch.

LOL! Maybe if you could read you bucktoothed turd of the ever cocksucking Queen you would realize that I'd already conceded that my post in regards to gender had nothing to do the discussion.

Thanks.

BBC comedy makes me angry. It's her fault your writers aren't funny.

Anyone with half a brain knows BBC comedy is vile. Channel 4 is where it's at, baby! Well, Peep Show is. The rest I could admittedly do without.

It bugs me. Everyone over here is constantly saying "British comedy is so funny!", but honestly, all I really see in 90% of it are toilet jokes and obvious puns and comebacks. Not to say our comedy is any better.

Friends. Yech.

I don't care if you like British comedy mate, you don't even even like your own dick.

Buck toothed? That's a southern stereotype. My stereotype is wellies and rugby league.

Carnifex, I'm not trying to say that you're less of a woman for doing things I'd consider masculine, I just dislike that fact.

Yes, you should all listen to me. SLAAAYYYEEEERRR

British comedy is one of the few things about this island that wins. There is a long long line of them that don't just revolve around toilet humour and puns, but a lot of them don't make it across the Atlantic. When I was in the US the only Brit comedies I saw were Keeping up Appearences and As time Goes By. Both damn, damn sucky

Well, Bastard, I'm sure it will come as a great surprise to learn that, as a gender, we really don't care what you think.

Little Britain...

Red Dwarf was hilarious until I realized the acting was absolutely horrible and the jokes unwatchable now.

I also tried to watch Blackadder, but it never really evoked even a "that was clever" sort of thought from me. It was either not funny or an obvious joke. Not my bag.

So, just what is "your bag", then?

To the womenfolk pondering getting inked: go for it. Ink on a woman is cool as hell.
Who gives a fuck what other people think anyway?
Find a good artist, make very clear what it is you want, and put the money into it; it is well worth it.

I say: Invest in something that has personal meaning and that you will take with you to the grave, others' opinions be damned.

I am working on my other (right arm) half sleeve: a viking ship atop a crest of stormy sea set against a backdrop of stormy three-layered cloud-torn moonlit night sky. Black and grey washed with white and light blue. About $ 1000 worth of ink on this one, after all is said and done.
Eventually, I'll get fully sleeved, but it isn't cheap.

I Already have a half sleeve of two opposing dragons on me left arm, a lunar eclipse on me left upper back and a black sun on my right upper back.
Tattoos are a commitment, both time-wise and monetarily, not to be taken lightly or on a whim.

Your tattoos sound reaaally cool. You should post pictures, if you have any.

My siblings and I kind of had this idea where we'd all get a type of tree somewhere on our body, but they would be a tree with characteristics of our own personality. For example, my brother is getting his sometime really soon, he's getting an autumn tree with falling leaves. Not because he's emo and depressed, but because that's just who he is, and it's how we see him. For me, my siblings made it up for me, but it'd be a cherry blossom tree with alot of colour. And of course it symbolized that the three of us are significantly different, but part of the same tree. :)
