Red Dwarf was hilarious until I realized the acting was absolutely horrible and the jokes unwatchable now.

I also tried to watch Blackadder, but it never really evoked even a "that was clever" sort of thought from me. It was either not funny or an obvious joke. Not my bag.

Well if you go for the weaker ones...

Red Dwarf and Little Britain are pretty shitty, and Blackadder was good, if acquired taste. I made a big list of k00l Britcoms a while back, a few pointers:

Beginners to Britcoms:

League Of Gentlemen - the influence on LB. Much weirder, darker, funnier, better acted, and infinitely less repetitive.
Peep Show - one of the few shows to actively break the mold. Quite demanding, but sheer genius.
I'm Alan Partridge - What Steve Coogan is famous for. Hilarious.
Black Books - A drunk Irishman who misanthropically runs a bookshop. Less harsh than it sounds, but still great.
Spaced - What Simon Pegg did (amongst other stuff) before Shaun Of The Dead/Hot Fuzz. Two 20-somethings pretend to be a couple to rent a flat. Stuffed full of cultural references, but in a good way.
The Office/Extras - Ricky Gervais double-whammy! The Office is a wonderfully cringeworthy tale of the worst boss in the world, Extras a wonderfully cringeworthy tale of a man trying to make it in the acting business. Think Entourage, but funnier, with better celebs actually making arses of themselves, and in Maggie, the best-friend-from-hell.
The Day Today/Brass Eye - Mocking news and documentary television programs, this is sheer genius. Verges on the edges of insanity at the best of times.

Once you've got through them, this is the Advanced stuff:

Jam - From Chris Morris, creator of Day Today/Brass Eye. Very dark and weird.
Nathan Barley - Also from CM. Impossible to describe, just watch. And laugh.
Garth Merengeti's Dark Place - Mockery of the old sci-fi 'dramas' that used to be around, this is the hospital FROM HELL. Absolutely bonkers, but takes a bit of getting used to.

Oh, and avoid The fucking IT Crowd at all costs.

Oh, and Valefor, paying over $1000 for a tattoo is madness. Sheer madness.

Yay to all the ones I've seen. Been meaning to get Jam on DVD, I'd love to see Chris Morris being even more fucked up.

The IT Crowd is the epitome of thoroughly average comedy for me. I'll never understand why Morris was involved though.

+1 to Brass Eye, fucking hilarious-the best one is where they uncover new technology where peadophiles can lean out of the internet and touch your children.

Nah, you were just somewhat ambiguous. It's hard to tell who you aimed the abuse at and I thought it was me because I made the last post. My apologies.

I read a lot of this thread last night and then had a dream about getting my ear pierced again.

Though I dislike most kinds of piercings, I still feel I need to admit that this one looks nice on you.
