What is with all these metalheads appointing non-metal albums as their favorites? I mean, I think I'm as open-minded as anybody here, but metal is still my favorite genre...

It's not about being "open-minded" really. Just because my favorite album isn't Metal doesn't mean that Metal can't be my favorite genre.

yeah, also i find that metal doesn't tend to produce albums that i can put on no matter what my mood and totally love. i am kind of surprised at how few metal albums there have been so far tho

It's really tough to chose just one but one of the first one's that comes to mind is:

Iron Maiden's : Dance Of Death

Yes...seriously. I like that album a lot. There isn't a song on it that I don't like. I've always found DOD to be a very strong Iron Maiden CD. I realize that many don't share my opinion and that's ok.

Hard choice propably "Dio - Holy Diver" or "Judas Priest - Unleashed In The East" or "Iron Maiden - Power Slave"

Probably Iron Maiden - Powerslave for me.

Am I the only one that's more surprised at this than Dance of Death?

Well, I think Reroute To Remain is better in In Flames' discography than Dance of Death is in Iron Maiden's discography so, no, I'm not surprised that if someone has In Flames as his favourite band, Reroute to Remain is his favourite album...

John Coltrane - Giant Steps

Very interesting choice, I would have expected something from a later era of his for you. An amazing album though. (My favourite Coltrane album is Blue Train, although probably because it was my first)

My favourite album of all time, at this moment I would say

The Wildhearts- Earth Vs the Wildhearts

Although there are always three or four albums that kick at its heels, and if anything replaces it from time to time it is always one of these- Morningrise, Blur's The Great Escape, OK Computer or Rust in Peace.

Giant Steps was my first Coltrane too... It's because I fell in love with this album that I got into Trane's music and jazz...

n°2 & 3 on my favourite albums list would probably be The Beatles' Abbey Road and Genesis' Selling England By The Pound.
