Some guy I know's brother got raped by some gang who was after him (although it wasn't gang rape, just one 'chosen' guy did it) and it made him go crazy then he killed himself.

Murder isn't as fucked up imo.

I don't want to say rape is worse than murder or anything. I just feel that rape is worthy of the death penalty and equal to murder in the devastation it causes.

Criminals generally don't care about spending time in jail as much as compared to the death penalty so maybe getting raped in jail will make them a little more apprehensive when committing crimes. It's not the greatest answer but it may deter at least one crime.

As for the personal cases, I would rather my future children be quickly murdered than to be raped. And about Brahm's 90% statistic, I'm sure a lot of that 90% are men who heard the woman say no and ignored them or were too drunk to comprehend the meaning of 'no'.

I personally know of three cases of rape which all messed the people up. One girl after being molested over a period of time by an old man later went on to be knocked up at least three times with four abortions and multiple partners which I'm sure being raped had something to do with acting that way. One girl was raped at a party by a drunk guy four years older than her and now she is fine with being beat by her boyfriend which may not be related but I'm guessing it is. Another girl who was molested by her uncle and now is afraid of even being bumped into or hugged by another man and is a lesbian. Just my personal encounters with rape victims who were adversely affected by it.

Many of the rape cases here involve immigrants as well, immigrants as in Indons, Indians and Bangladeshis who are here to work and then fuck off once they've made their money. My family are not native to Malaysia but we've been here for over a 100 years so even we're considered an immigrant race, we're very much Malaysian. Although the Banglas and Indians (from Bangladesh and India) are our close relations, we fucking hate them. Malaysian Indians hate Indian Indians, and when something criminal happens involving them, we bash the shit out of them. They would be screaming "Why are you doing this? We're the same color! We come from the same place!"

I find this very weird, I hate the immigrant races (1st generation and newer) despite coming from a family of one. But like I said, we've been here for a 100 years and I guess I'm just too Malaysian to bother about my Ceylonese/Indian side.

Of course rape is hardy a nice thing, but suggesting that the victims might like to be murdered afterwards is sickening. Reminds me of those 'honour killings' where women are murdered by their family to spare them the 'shame'. Fucking primitive idiots.

As for the topic title, we actualy have a very low rate of conviction for rapes here, so low that the Washington Post did an article on it a while back, I'll try and find the link later. There's a growing rightwards shift in our mentality here, along with the media constantly suggesting things like it's women's fault for getting raped if they wear revealing clothing or get drunk. It's going to be hell if the Conservatives get in...

It happens here as well. We have 3 Muslim conservative states in Malaysia and they come up with the weirdest ideas at times. They said that women should be the ones to be blamed in rape cases because of their dressing etc. Maybe, but I find it utterly stupid. Many of the rape victims are Muslim women who are dressed nothing short of boring, and with headscarves. So how does that explain the notion?

These conservative states are ruled by an Islamic based party and they're pretty strong in the villages, where most people are slightly backward. They often come up with really radical proposals that make us go "Fuck" or "What an idiot".

They proposed that the prosecution can only charge a rape suspect ONLY if the rape was witnessed by 4 men, who have to be religious, head of mosque, ulama etc.

We all thought he was trying to joke. C'mon, if anyone were to witness a rape taking place, they'd definitely try to help, or get some help. 4 men? They could easily take the rapist out in a blink of an eye. Anyway the Federal Government was against it cos it's downright stupid.

They proposed the hudud law where it's principle was like 'eye for an eye' basis. If the rapist is found guilty, he's either castrated or gets his Capt Jack chopped off.

The Federal Government once again dismissed it cos it's 'unethical' and would reflect Malaysia as an extremist nation.

I actually was up for the Hudud law thingy.
