Malefic's split with Leviathan is still my favorite. As it all sounds the same (the sole exception being Defective Epitaph), whatever you hear first is bound to be your favorite.

Ha, i read that post and went "no way! the first xasthur i listened to isnt my favourite!"

And then i realised the first xasthur record i heard was TWTD and it is indeed my favourite

I seem to be the exception as I hated the first Xasthur I heard, and really like this one.

This one. It's the quintessential Xasthur. Although I maybe under the influence of the "first one you hear" rule, since this was the first for me.

Honestly, I say go with Defective Epitaph. It might be devoid of that oppressive, Xasthur-esque atomsphere, but Malefic plays real drums on it, making it sound less artificial.
