i just posted this on another forum and thought "gee it would be interesting to hear about people here" and so yay:

mah name is jeff and has been since i was born in the 1988 i've lived in the same house in Victoria and have been shy all my life. my mom is friendly and kinda flaily. my dad is quiet and stubborn. they were pretty easy going parents. my mom used to own a video store and now works at the hospital. my dad used to do insurance and now works as an electrician.

when i was 10ish i was playing Star Fox at my mom's video store and i met Rohan. he was four years older than me and introduced me to all sorts of cool shit like Magic The Gathering, Warcraft 2, Warhammer, Diablo, Starcraft, Dragonlance novels, Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fantasy, and Diablo 2, which i would then introduce to the people my age i spent time with at school and usually play/talk about/etc a bunch with them. this gave me a solid backing in nerdyness. around the year Warcraft 3 was released my family also upgraded from 56K to DSL and i spent most of the next 3ish years playing that and drifting away from my original group of school friends. if there's a "thing i'm best at" then it's probably Warcraft 3. i won some stuff from tournaments and lost interest in it when Human players started revolving most of their strategies around towers. i still play DoTA and Diablo 2 occasionally.

my mom was really into reading and music and i think i picked up both of those interests from her. i also used to watch muchmusic and live videos with my sisters and their friends. my first big interest in books came from reading Magic the Gathering novels. my first interest in music came from my sister giving me a huge stack of old CDs she didnt listen to anymore and her boyfriend introduced me to Tool, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, and Nine Inch Nails. for a while they were pretty much all i listened to, although i was slowly expanding my boundaries and discovered Devin Townsend and Opeth and my friend D'Arcy introduced me to a whole bunch of ska in Grade 9 that i listened to for a bit. a couple years ago my friend Bryan showed me RYM and that got me into the who internet music nerd thing and voraciously discovering new bands via downloading stuff. my first favourite band was The Offspring. now my favourite band is NOmeansno. my first favourite authors were Michael Stackpole and R A Salvatore. now my favourite authors are Dave Eggers and Cormac McCarthy.

in school i was pretty quiet and spent most of my time with a small handful of friends. everyone else i'd rarely even talk to. everyone seemed to have a generally good impression of me though because i was never bullied or whatever. after school ended i hung out with people i talked to at school outside of school for the first time, although over the last 2 years we've sort of noticed we dont actually have much in common and spent less and less time together.

i dated a girl i met on Saltspring island who has Asperger's. she just told me a week ago she has a girlfriend now. then i dated and moved in with her best friend

my first job was a paper route i got from my neighbour. my first and only actual job was working at my mom's video store, i started just before she sold it and been at it for 3 years.

i go to a community college doing a university transfer for philosophy. probably gonna go to the university of victoria. i don't have any plans beyond that.

i've been a vegetarian since i was 12 with occasional bouts of veganism, although i ate very little meat before that because my mom was one.

I am stealing this from somebody I use to go to school with. But here goes...

My name is Evan Bell and I like cake.

Change the name and that was a grade 12's speech for trying to become school vice president.

He was the best school VP ever.

What a conceptual question! I'll need some time to consider this.

My name is Daniele i was born in La Spezia, later moved to Sardinia, then moved to Rome, then moved to the U.S.A, then moved to Milan and currently living in Livorno the most comunist city in Italy.
My father kills vietcong in his free time, my mom works in the kitchen. When i was a little kid i really loved to play around with insects, used to feed basically anything that moved to spiders... I loved them. I loved nature and going outside, wrecking stuff of all sorts until when i was 12 i was intrduced to videogames. My "hardcore" gaming years were from 12-16 i guess. Until i was introduced to Pantera, Obituary, alcohol and pussy and some penis, my life changed drastically.

My name is Marty. I think everybody knows what I do (software engineer pursuing a second degree in Computer Science), as well as the fact that I was born and raised in Detroit. And still live there to this day. My parents are both business owners (yeah, I'm kind of an "upper-middle-class kid"). As a kid, I had a natural interest in computers and electronics. Buying all these nerdy "electronic kits" and "erector sets" already at age 11 and learning BASIC at age 12. I also did a lot of swimming as a kid. In fact, I was actively swimming until about four years ago. Now, I do a lot of running instead.

I'm a very energetic person. I'm easilly excited, and once you set me off, I can be really fun to hang out with. I'm naturally shy, but I know how to work with it, and I can still be very sociable regardless. I like to balance my life between me-time and them-time. One weekend I might go to two or three different social events. While the next, I might just be at home studying and playing video games. I'm also very analytical. I'll see or hear something, and immediately think deeply about it and rationalize it to death. I guess I'm just naturally curious about the way the world works and how other people think.

My name is Carolyn. I'll be 18 on October 23, which makes me born in 1990.
This fall i'm studying to become a nurse. Eventually I'd like to be a pediatrician. But for now, I'll manage with being a pediatrics nurse.
Uhhm.
I'm a pretty shy girl. I keep to myself alot. I'm not one for alot of partying, i'd much rather stay home and read.
I'm very interested in comics, and comic book characters. Wonder Woman, being my favourite. I also like video games and whatnot.
I got into metal when I went into the ninth grade.
Before that I was "punk" ha! I was very much into the punk rock scene. But I was always into KISS, AC/DC. So it wasn't too much of a leap to add Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.. I had started to get into power metal, more than anything. It wasn't really until I met a boy in grade 9, when I wanted to out-smart him in "power metalology" when I discovered more bands and such.

Uhhhh. Yeah.

I was born Alexander James Evans on 28th October, 1991 (making me the youngest regular poster here). I was born in Bridgend and lived there for the first 8 years of my life until I moved to Cardiff. I've moved around a lot since then, but always in the Cardiff area.

When I was little I was labelled a child prodigy and had loads of IQ tests and stuff. I have an IQ of 138 apparently, though I'm too lazy to really max out my potential. I was into reading until I was about twelve, until I started listening to RHCP, grew my hair I didn't really give a fuck about school, hahah. I didn't do any homework for my entire first year of high school! I've been meaning to get back more into reading fiction, I mostly read music and trivia books these days.

I have Aspergers, which means I can be a little weird at times. I'm really shy when meeting new people but a bit of a clown among people I know. I also have dyspraxia, so I'm a clumsy bastard. I seem to be well liked in school, and I suppose I'm able to make people laugh so I've never been bullied or anything. I'm still too shy to talk properly to someone I really, really fancy though, I tend to overthink things and it comes out weird.
My mum's a priest, which is why we move about a lot. I'm currently estranged from my dad, and I haven't seen him in 6 months.

I've been listening to progressive music since I was a baby 'cause of my dad, though I stopped for a bit when he left. Prog and metal are my favorite genres, though I've recently been getting into jazz, electronic and indie folk. I try to go to gigs when I can, though not many bands I like come through. Oh, and of course I write for the fine institution that is Metal Reviews!

Hahah, posted quite a bit there didn't I? Maybe I'm dangerously self-obsessed or something.

okay, I'll give a proper introduction.

My name is Thomas, and I was born in 1989. I live on an island just outside of Norway's next biggest city, Bergen. I grew up in a christian home, and was quite active until some years ago. I feel I have to do my own thing, but I still have alot of christian friends, and doesn't have any hard feelings against the church. I started playing guitar when I was 12, and I mostly played Hillsongs back then.

My real admiration for great guitarplaying began back when I heard Van Halen's solo on Michael Jackson's beat it. That was the moment I decided to put alot of effort into playing guitar.

My metal experience begun with Metallica - Master of Puppets, but I soon developed into a huge Iron Maiden fan, which I still am. I love everything they've done. Even the stuff with Blaze.

Besides from music, I'm a sports idiot. I've been playing soccer since I was six, and still enjoy it. As many other young boys, my dream was always to become a star player. My ambitions is slightly lower now, and I play at my sparetime when I have the time. I'm also a powerlifter, and I'm competing on a national level, most of you may know what happens to my eyes when I use my squat-kit :P

I'm a quite social person, and I love meeting new people and hang out with my friends. I'm a generally happy guy, which I think people like to be around. On the other side I'm quite a hotshot and gets angry really fast, if I'm not allowed to do things my way, or people criticise me for various reasons. I have quite an ego, which probably is bad :P

I'm Matthew. Turned 18 years old on the 5th of May. Born in Virginia, but moved to Florida before I could even talk.

As a kid, I could read a long while before I even started school, which everyone thought was amazing. Not much of an athlete, though, I was the type of kid who was always picked last for the team (I actually remember 2 teams arguing over who would have to end up with me, it was that bad). I've always been pretty frail and wimpy (you can see my ribs), but I'm not unhealthy. I always played a lot of video games as a kid, I got a Sega Genesis for Christmas when I was 2 or 3.

I was never the most popular kid in school. In fact, I was one of the kids who would get picked on from Kindergarten until 4th grade. We moved to my current residence and I was zoned for a different school. 5th grade was a lot better, where I was well known and reasonably liked by most of my class. 6th grade was awful (I went to the middle school in my old school zone for 6th grade), but 7th grade onward was pretty awesome. I graduated from High School earlier this year.

I was really into fantasy and stuff as a kid. I was pretty dramatic too. I always liked listening to the music in video games, like boss fights and stuff, so I guess I was all set up to listen to Metal. When I finally got myself into it, I made the drastic shift from the small nerdy well-dressed kid to the long-haired metalhead I suppose I am today.

Around people I don't know, I can be very stoic, which I guess could drive people away, but I'm really too nice for my own good. I can be shy, but I'll make an effort to socialize, which works out alright most of the time. I'm not much of a tough-guy, and I have a bit of a feminine side to be honest.

I'm studying music and I'm persuing a career as a musician.

Now, if anyone took the time to read all of this, I applaud you. srsly, I'm not that interesting.

Well, normally I'd post some silly humorous one liner here but since people are being sincere I guess I'll try to tell something
about myself. Surprisingly I was actually interested enough about you guys to read all those walls of text so here goes mine.

I was born in 1986 in a little western city in Turkey. I'm told I was a talkative and smart and happy kid. I got into metal in
like 6th grade because of some people around me were listening and I thought it was cool. Somehow got into a good school and
showed a complete lack of interest in classes. I played basketball for the school team and had quite a lot of friends. When I graduated I
sabotaged my own life and didn't go to college for 2 years. Those 2 years were terrible but I learned a lot and became a better
person. Now I'm studying business management in an OK college, don't really know what I will do when I graduate. I started
playing guitar last year but I should have started a long time ago. I'm doing ok at it I guess, trying to get over the hump between
rhythm and lead playing, which is where almost everyone who quits does. I'm kind of shy but it's nothing a few beers can't solve.
I smoked for 5 years but quit 4 days ago. It's going well so far. I was mostly into black metal for a long time but now I listen
to anything from The Velvet Underground to Skinny Puppy.

Me. Johnny. And I've got three middle names, Kim Ray Elvis. I'm Swedish but I only have one swedish name and three american names. My father wanted to call me JR, which is why he gave me the name Ray. My mother disagreed with this and gave me the name Elvis. The problem with these names was that they were all American names and my mother wanted me to have atleast one swedish name. That name was Kim, and I have the name day on the same day that I have my birthday, 20th March.

I got my first computer when I was about 4-5 years old and have been playing classic stuff like Pitfall and Spy VS Spy since I was a kid. I have always been kind of a smartass when it comes to games because I've played basically everything. I think I got into music in general when I was about 13 I think when I started listening to Slipknot and Linkin Park, and it later evolved into progressive rock and metal.

This is all the interesting shit that I could come up with.

I, too, was a "gifted kid." Unfortunately, I got picked on a lot for being smart until about the sixth grade (when I went to a more prestigious school). Though I guess I kind of deserved it since I had a tendency to be really arrogant and "better-than-you"-like as a child. I also have a mild case of Aspergers, so throughout my life I had to learn some of the social conventions that seemed to come natural to everybody else (such as knowing the line between "being funny" and "acting bizarre").

My parentally given moniker is Kyle Koeppe. The 'oe' combination is German, giving people problems pronouncing my name since forever. I have three siblings. I learned to read before I began attending preschool. At an early age, I was deemed 'gifted', which has never done anything for me.

In school, I did well socially and academically. After my dad died when I was nine, I had several changes of residence and went through some rough emotional drama. I began attending church through some of my friends' advice. Church became a big part of my life until becoming disillusioned with it after some unanswered questions which people shrugged off. Done with church, I became rebellious and anti-social but never did anything too drastic.

Growing up, my older brother listened to bands like White Zombie, Metallica, and Pantera and my dad was a big Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath fan (Trapped Under Ice was his favorite Metallica song). I grew up listening to this music but didn't really get into metal until I was 16. When I got my first job, a guy I worked with asked me if I liked the movie Airheads and I mentioned the White Zombie scene. He later re-introduced me to metal, since metal isn't popular whilst attending church, and introduced me to death and black metal.

Three years ago, I met my current girlfriend and after two years, I moved in with her and her mother. I'm now a junior at the University of Cincinnati and transferred there from a community college. I'm majoring in Philosophy and intend on getting my doctorate, hopefully at Stony Brook or Boston College, to be a Philosophy professor.
