 Post subject: Favorite Game Soundtracks
PostPosted: Sun Jul 13, 2008 5:06 pm
I'm a little surprised this question hasn't been asked before. What are some of your favorite video game soundtracks?

My all-time favorite is a toss-up between Final Fantasy III/VI and the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

Other favorites include:

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Xenogears and Xenosaga Episode 1 (I haven't played Episodes 2 and 3 yet, since I'm still playing Episode 1)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy I (Dawn Of Souls version)
Metal Gear Solids 1 and 2 (I haven't played 3 and 4 yet, since I'm still playing 2)
The Need For Speed SE (a surprisingly cool rock/techno soundtrack)
Grim Fandango
Any Baldur's Gate game
Tekken 2 (yeah, I'll admit - this game actually has a really catchy soundtrack)
Starcraft

Those are all I can think of right now (licensed soundtracks don't count, btw). How about everybody else?

The Metal Gear Solid series, all of them have incredible music. Oh, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has the most consistently great soundtrack that I've ever heard.

This one is beautiful:

Damn, I forgot about that game. Thanks for reminding me. That's another one of my favorite game soundtracks. Personally, my favorite song in the game is the Alchemy Lab theme in the first castle (can't remember what it's called).

You've probably already heard this one, but incase you haven't check it out. Terra in Black by Ailsean. Amazing.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Metroid games. Especially the Prime series, some of the best game music ever, very dark and scifi-ish.

Silent Hill, Metroid series, Guilty Gear series, Castlevania series, couple of the FF games and Starcraft. There are more that I like, but these are my favourite.

Nobuo Uematsu is a God. More people need to recognize just how awesome The Black Mages are.

Besides Uematsu, there are a lot of soundtracks I really dig. Can't think of any to name at the moment.

But srsly, guys, The Black Mages are awesome.

This is why I love Uematsu so much. Jesus, I'm growing more obsessed by the hour.

- Chrono Trigger
mentioned before, we've all played and heard it and loved every second of it.

- Soul Calibur 2
seriously, how was this not mentioned?! the soundtrack is fucking awesome!!!

F-Zero X also had a heavy metal-ish soundtrack, pretty cool.

My favourite is probably Metroid Prime- with a few exceptions, the music always fits the eerie sci fi mood perfectly. The sequels have some good music now and then but its just not as inspired.

Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask also both have awesome music. I also really loved Okami's- one of the best parts of the game is its awesome soundtrack.

Oh, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The game is almost worth buying simply for all the nerdgasms you will have after listening to song after song from all your all favourites.

I, too, like the music in the N64 Zelda games. The Gerudo Valley theme, in particular, kicks ass. As does the Spirit Temple theme.

The soundtrack to Mass Effect is amazing. I purchased the CD directly from Bioware.
