Hurray, lets lower our standards so that idiots who can't spell can feel better about themselves! After all, what everyone in society needs is a little more self esteem so that they can feel great about their weaknesses and not ever have to attempt to (heaven forbid) improve themselves.
And seriously, if you're in university and you consistently make spelling mistakes (mostly everyone's going to have one or two per essay- its the ones who make five to ten per page that are the problem), especially when we now have Microsoft word which bloody tells you when most words are misspelled... what the hell are you doing in university?
I agree with you 100%. Particularly, lowering grammar standards in schools is a bad idea, because when you go out into the real world (where you'll be writing cover letters and work-related documents), your grammar and spelling will play a very significant role in how much people respect you. Regardless of what these ultra-liberal "feel good about yourself" types may say, the real world isn't quite so accomidating. Get used to it.
