what bothers me with this one is the tendencies to overlook flaws such as some of the fast drumming parts. Overpolished albums shouldn't contain such.

They've always had very bad percussion on their albums, at best there's a hell of a lot of floating going on.

yeah I know, what annoys me the most is that everything is recorded in one take. What the hell? People notices flaws, and this album has pretty many. drops it about 15-20 points for me.

It's just third-rate norsecore with some bells and whistles added... can't see why people enjoy it. They'd better spent more of their budget on getting the drums right instead of those horrible overdubbed vocals

this album is balls, and not in a good way, like balls of chocolate, or Loukoumas, which are fried balls of dough soaked in honey and cinnamon, or meatballs made with garlic and onions.

the point is this album is just -balls-, period. it's not good. armada was okay, this isn't, and writing this review while making stereotypical reference to maybe 4% of the black metal fans in the world who set churches on fire and think everything Emperor wrote after Nightside was shit as if they're the majority 99% is just dumb.

If women are only critical about one week a month, then yes, we are menstruating.

Am I the only one who thinks the vocalist sounds like Lemmy in some places? Check out the track Ascendant and fast forward to 3:30

With no preconceptions other than a very hazy recollection that it had received a high score on this site .. I brought this to the listening booth at the local HMV .. and I liked! From the sampling I did at the store, I actually thought it was some kind of progressive version of Cage .. not melodic black metal, although I can hear the BM influence now.

However after doing a complete listen (yes, I have only done one so sue me) I would have to say an epic attempt, but not quite an epic result. Still pretty enjoyable .. probably about an 80-85 for me .. will need more listens .. but there just seems to be too much generic BM filler.

EDIT - 2 Listens - The generic BM parts are fading, the progressive and well written bits are making an impression

BTW this is absolutely nothing at all like Satyricon, no basis for comparison.
