Oh the Olympics, no one really cares, but they pretend to.

Also, don't forget the roids he sprinkles on his Wheaties.

It's impressive but who the fuck cares? The olympics are just the twentieth century version of nationalism.

Please no Michael Phelps facts here. They weren't funny with Chuck Norris and they aren't funny now.

Who says nationalism is inherently bad?

It's, with religion, the one thing that causes war so it's pretty bad.
But maybe you think war is good...

Not. War is mostly fought over material resources and the territory they are in.

Michael Phelps is amazing. Also, no roids (they test for that sort of thing).

And I love the Olympics and watch them every year. No "pretending."

That's pretty cool, do you watch re-runs then? Seeing as how the Olympics are once in four years.

Lulz.

I too watch the olympics, unfortunately I've missed a lot of competitions and have had to download the footage, because the olympics committe assholes are deleting all the footage uploaded on sites like Youtube.

My statement wasn't negative or prescriptive in any way but you're right. Nationalism like religion is the way that the puppeteers convince the masses that the war they are waging to further their personal interest is actually a war to further the country and its followers' best interests.

Yup. Although I still do not believe that nationalism of itself leads to war. It can applied for better and for worse, I believe. Which is another parallel with religion.

i'll take this occasion to bring attention to another incredible athlete - Vanessa Fernandes, who won the silver medal in triathlon. she's held in very high regard in Portugal, and with very good reason. she's won a ton of triathlon competitions (become twi-time world champion, i think), and now she is giving her silver medal prize money (22.500 euros) to charity. respect :dio: :dio:

Switzerland was panzerlike in the tennis doubles... and that's about the only thing we have to brag about.

Olympic volleyball is much more intense than amateur beach volleyball.
