Utterly amazed at the UK being third in the medal rankings. WTF since when were we actually capable of anything....

Yes, and we have an aptitude for boring things involving boats, as well.

Michael Phelps is amazing. Also, no roids (they test for that sort of thing).

And I love the Olympics and watch them every year. No "pretending."

me 2 :) ... except, i only watch it every 4th years.

To call the Olumpics modern nationalism is rather stupid. Sure thing, I want to see my country take some medals and be proud of my country, but that is hardly nationalism. I'm equaly happy when a guy breaks the worldrecord from another country. However, the swimming contents are not my favourite. I like atletic and gymnastic the most, despite there's hardly any competitors from my country.

Sometimes there's mastubation contest in my country with various deciplins, such as most orgasm and most hours matubation. So if the olympics are ever held in Denmark I hope this particular sport will get introduced.

what about Usain Bolt? he broke the 100 metre record seemingly without even trying (imagine what he could've done if he had pushed himself all the way), now he broke Michael Johnson's 200m record. clearly he and Phelps are the stars of these olympics.

Portugal's being very disapponting. long jump world champion (i think) Naide Gomes didn't even reach the final, Telma Monteiro disappointed in Judo and Francis Obikwelu, silver medal in Athens, also didn't make the final. they claim lack of support and may have a point (they don't have anywhere near as much support as, say, the americans), but it's no excuse when in previous olympics we did better with less support and this year countries like Togo already have us beat in medals.

too many portuguese athletes seemed content merely with being in the olympics. i mean, it's something to be proud of, but it doesn't end there.

Yeah, I was very excited when I watched him breaking the 100 metre record. It just annoys me alot that he slowed down a bit on the last 20-30 meter or so - just imaging what the record would be if he had given himself 100% all the way like he did on the 200 metre run. Actually, I'm very suprised that he was that fast on the 200 metre, cuz they all ran about 20.5+ in the qualifications for the final

Phelps must be good. Howard Stern dedicated over 30 minutes to him. Sure the 30 minutes were full of jokes about him, but still to get some air time on Howard must be good.

I love Howard Stern.

Actually he said that on television. You seem to forget he needs to train for hours a day, and swimming is one of the only sports where you train almost every muscle in your body. The only thing i don't really find healthy are all the eggs.

Marion Jones was tested in 2000 at Sydney and her results came back negative...till some time later she was exposed as a cheat..

People lets not kid ourselves, all these guys and gals are on something....and Phelps could be one of them

How come people can't admit that sometimes there are just good athletes out there?

Indeed, a lot of them deserve great respect.
