I'd say just because you might like a particular band in general doesn't mean you will always like everything they put out. We as reviewers might be more partial to bands we really like and have certain expectations from them. When they are met, the scores will be higher and when not, lower. Over all, there is a certain objectiveness we must all apply when listening to anything.
As far as this new Voivod, I couldn't get into it. I found it quite boring compared to the last release. I'm not sure what I'd score it at though.....
