I really need to get back on track with this band. I pretty much stopped at Mardraum a while back after really not liking Monumension and I also remember not liking ISA when I listened to it... but I've heard so much praise from them since Below the Lights that I really need to get back to it, especially being a prog fan.

This is the best record i've heard this year, without any doubts. I don't know why but Runn and Isa didn't grab me like this one. Vertebrae sounds amazing, George Marino did a perfect job mastering the album, while still retaining the black metal atmosphere.
The songs have a lot more clean vocals and atmoshperic passages, but at the same time they are darker and heavier than their previous works: this is what i call a band envolving their sound...

Album of the year!

imo one of the weaker enslaved albums and perhaps the weakest but this being enslaved means its still an awesome listen.

80/100 for me

To tell you the truth, I wasn't so amazed with this album at first. Probably i didnt listen to it carefully, but it really is damn awesome. Especially now that i am into a big Prog rock/metal killing spree! :dio:

I consider this to be their weakest album, the last 3 songs have less clean vocals and sound better. New dawn starts of great but later on the clean vocals ruins it, no emotion in the voice, weak and boring. Sometimes the songs sound a little to close to Opeth´s prog sound which they can not compete with. The record makes me want to listen to their earlier records or Opeth.

This album is so awesome. Every time a listen to it I like it more. A definite improvement on Ruun, which I was already high on. Contender for album of the year for me.

Another album I immediately disregarded but will go back and check out due to the verbal fellatio in this thread.

They've got plenty of that from me in the review, but they deserve it. Awesome album.

I've listened to it 4 or 5 times now all the way through uninterrupted, and it's definitely a good album. If it wasn't I wouldn't keep listening to it. But it just doesn't reach out and grab me. I dunno. This is the first Enslaved album I've listened to, and maybe that has something to do with it. I feel like I must be missing something.

in my opinion: good, not great... maybe like 85/100

start with below the lights for the proggy version of this band... work your way through Isa and Ruun and you'll get used to this.

Oh man so yeah this album is pretty sick but I'm just not a big prog fan. The solo at the end of Ground is so sick. It's one of those albums you zone out to with noise cancelling headphones.

trap listen to belowthelights if you want the best of their "modern" more 70s proggish influenced sound. otherwise dig in deep with any of their older black metal albums, they're absolutely phenomenal.

I find Monumension better than Below the Lights.

I have to eat those words up, I guess I´ve listened to a bit to much old school black and doom lately, the clean vocals are still weak but after ten lidtenings or so it stoped getting on my nerv, it was really painfull before that. Great record changed my vote to 90. Few bands can keep the quality while evolving like this.

I haven't heard this yet but I really don't understand all the praise this band gets... I'll give this one a good try though like I did all their others, if I get hold of it.

ya but i think of monumension as more rooted in their viking/black sound more so than than their more modern -70ish- prog sound (does that even make sense?). with cds as diverse as enslaved makes im sure everyone will have their favorites but i don't know how anyone could disagree that this band is anything less than one of the very best in metal.

every album sounds completely different yet all are awesome in their own way.
