This whole rounders thing got me curious. I love hearing about all the different sports across the world. Some I've never heard of, some sound like they'd be fun to watch/play... So what sports do you like to watch or read about? Who is your favorite team? Is there a particular player you like?

I like many different types of sports, but I'll keep it to my top two.

Sport -
Football (American) - By far my favorite sport. College football over NFL.
Basketball - "I Love This Game" The opposite here, NBA over college basketball.

Team -
For football - Nebraska Cornhuskers - "Goooo Biiiig Reeeed... GO BIG RED!!" The time of year I look forward to the most is Husker gameday. I don't really have a favorite NFL team.

For basketball - LA Lakers - I've loved this team since I was eight. For college it would be the Huskers as well, but they aren't ever that good.

Player -
Over all the years I've been watching Husker football I'd say Tommy Frazier gets my vote. Anybody remember this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LHbZ3T4rzA

For basketball it would have to be Kobe Bryant... that's right, Kobe Bryant.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica, SLB or Benfica for short (flag in the avatar). like most clubs in Portugal*, Benfica is involved in several sports, so obviously in all of them they are the ones i support.
off the top of my head, we have handball, athletics, judo, rink hockey, football, indoor football, volleyball and basketball, although i don't know whether all of them are professional.
the only sport i actively follow is football, although every now and then i watch indoor football as well.

*i think that this also the norm in Spain (for example, FC Barcelona is the club with the most titles in the world, all sports combined).

my favourite player is Rui Costa, he played in Benfica since he was a kid and left for the Italian league in his early twenties, promising he'd be back. he finally returned in 2006, signing a contract before even discussing wages. he says he returned to Lisbon to earn around a tenth of what he got in Italy :dio: sadly, he's retired now.
my favourite active player is probably Kaka. pure class.

---

watched that video, Frazier looks like a fucking beast. also i noticed they're a college team. college sports are nowhere near as big here as they are in the USA. the big support of athletes is probably a major reason for the USA's success in the Olympics and such.

Favourite sport: Football
Honourable mentions: Hockey and alot of wintersports obviously.

Fav team: Manchester United gotta be my all-time favourite team. started cheering for them when I got into the game back in 96. Eric Cantona would be my all-time favourite player. I'm very fond of Barcelona too. In Norway I follow SK Brann everywhere. They won the series for the first time in i 44 years last season an it was just overwhelming. The passion for this team is insane in this city.

Hockey: First got into hockey in February this year when I saw Carolina Hurricanes - Washington Capitals in Raleigh. That was just awesome and I have been a fan ever since.

Wintersports: I'm from Norway, what did you expect?:P I love freestyle skiing and slalom. I'm also a big fan of ski-jumping.

I kind of suck when it comes to sports but I do like football a lot. I am nominally an Arsenal fan, but nowadays have lost touch with the Premier Leage a lot. But I used to be a big fan round about 1997, 1998, that kind of time. Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Ian Wright, Patrick Vieira etc. were big heroes of mine.

I like to play but I suck, really... I play in defence and kick people. If I go further forward nobody passes to me even though I get into good positions.

Replace Arsenal with Man U and this is basically me. Whenever I actually bother watching games, I love it, but most of the time cba following it. I kick people when playing too, although haven't played for, god, years.

Don't mind tennis and boxing, but most sports bore me, otherwise.

My favorite sport is American football like NESS, but I like the NFL more than college.

Favorite team = Philadelphia Eagles

Second favorite is hockey, NHL in particular. The lack of TV time given to it in the US is sad, luckily the team I like has all their games on a local station so I can watch them.

Favorite team = Chicago Blackhawks

I love basketball too (college more than NBA), as well as baseball, MMA, boxing, soccer, and even the occasional golf.

I like most sports but don't have time to watch them all

My Favorite sport like most Canadians is hockey Mainly NHL.
Favorite Teams : Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche.
Favorite hockey players: Joe Sakic and Chris Higgins.

As for the other sports I like Canadian Football (CFL) and greatly prefer it over NFL. I Also follow the local Soccer team Montreal Impact of the USL and NBA basketball once in a while.

I don't really care to watch or follow any sports but Mixed Martial Arts. I love watching two well trained fighters beat the shit out of each other in numerous ways... All the knockouts/submissions are just awesome to watch. I've been following the UFC for about 6 years now... I used to watch Pride, and I catch Dream and any other events that I can lately.

I'm a huge nut for MMA, I could talk about it for ages.

I'm pretty much a football(soccer) guy and I support Galatasaray Sk. I've played basketball in my time and try to watch NBA games whenever I can. I loosely follow the Premiership and Serie A and sometimes bet.

Other than GS I also have a thing for Liverpool. Gerard is one of my favorites of all time. Such a hugely talented star, yet he never stopped playing from the heart.

I would have to MMA is the one "sport" I can't get into. I actually think it is a gimmick, not a sport. I have friends that fight in local MMA matches as well as statewide fights, but I can't even find myself going to cheer for them. Boxing, on the other hand, is awesome. I like the set of rules they have to keep from killing the other person. Plus it just seems more classy(?) than MMA.

My favorite sport changes on a semi-regular basis. But right now, it's basketball.
My other favorites are football, hockey, and baseball.

Team
Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings, of course. :)
I'm also an unabashed Chicago White Sox fan (in fact, I saw them live at US Cellular Field when I went to Chicago last summer).

That game should be interesting. You guys have a great squad and we have Harry Kewell, Milan Baros, Fernando Meira and Arda Turan. Whoever wins will finish in the first place, probably.

With how corrupt boxing has become, I actually think MMA is the more classy of the two, though that hasn't always been the case.

Since the advent of MMA rules and their getting accepted by State Athletic Commissions, it is a lot more technical and fun to watch in my opinion. You should give it another chance NESS. A lot of these guys, particularly in the UFC, are skilled martial artists who rely just as much on their jiu-jitsu skills as they do on their punches and kicks. A straight up brawler will never be able to sustain a career in MMA. I mean, look at Kimbo.

I used to prefer boxing over MMA by a mile, but now its the other way around.

Hockey is the way to go, and my favourite team is the Montreal Canadians. I also watch some football- I prefer NFL to CFL, but I'll watch my Montreal Alouettes. My favourite NFL team is the Green Bay Packers.
