I've always had a hard time listening to this one. It has great songs and great instrumental work, but the vocals sound like a cheap Geddy Lee imitation. (And Geddy Lee's vocals themselves are definitely an acquired taste.)

Charlie Dominici sounds MUCH better on his recent Dominici releases, but he just ruins what otherwise would have been a classic release.

If you can get past the goofy-sounding elf-like vocals, this is a recommended release.

Dream Theater is one of my favorite bands, and I own all of their albums along with A Change of Seasons… but I never listened to this. I love LaBrie on vocals so I never really cared to hear what I was always told was an inferior singer. It's kind of like how I got into Angra with Falaschi, so I never cared to hear them with Matos. After this review and my friend that has been telling me this is great even without LaBrie, I think I'll finally go out and get this album. Thanks.

Oh, and wow. That artwork is terrible.

Light fuse and get away.

Is that the worst song title ever or what?

Couldn't really get into this one either. Vocals kind of killed it, and I didn't really enjoy the songs that much either.

It seems ironic that this album would have such lousy production (note: I haven't listened to it before), since DT's albums have always had really good production ever since Images And Words. Probably some of the best production of any metal (let alone prog metal) band.

This album has some good songs and some great material, but it's not quite up to par with their other material. Weird singing and crappy production certainly does bring things down a notch.

It could be a fantastic album, if the sound wouldn't be so bad. And if nothing is gay - the cover artwork is.

They just should play this completely live and bring it out on a new DVD. :)

Oh, God, yes, the coverart is an abomination. Seriously, what were they thinking?

I couldn't believe Terry Date actually produced this album. But all engineers have to live and learn to be good at what they do.
