Very underated release in my book! IMO Metal Churches finest release front to back! 'End of an Age' is Amazing! The Mike Howe years are my favorite MC era.

This is exactly how I feel. It was my favorite CD of the year (when it was released - 1993).

This is an excellent album, and it definitely needs more attention. What is really great about Hanging in the Balance is its range: It's a great mix of more straightforward heavy metal and thrash (Gods of Second Chance, Conductor, Down to the River), more atmospheric metal (A Subtle War, the excellent Little Boy) and some genuinely emotional music (Waiting For a Saviour is one of metal's best ballads, and as the review rightly notes, End of the Age is the best mixture of folk and metal yet). This is my favourite Metal Church album, and one of my favourite albums of all time.

94/100

Regarding the review: Though I agree with your opinion, Thomas, can I recommend that you proof-read your reviews (or if english isn't your first language, that you get someone else to)? There are a lot of spelling and grammar errors in this review, and in particular a lot of sentence fragments and vocabulary errors.

And damn, that cover is bloody awful.

You should get someone to look over it and then discuss it over MSN or something.

The review could be shortened to this sentence: "Kicks your ass!!"

Anyways good review Thomas but it should also be mentioned the kick ass perfect example of "how you are suppoused to do a metal ballad" that is "Waiting For The Savior" not since Gods Of Wrath or Watch The Cildren Pray has The Metal Church preached us a lesson in metal so strongly as in this song, how is this band so overlooked i would never know, so its good to see some apreciation for them on this site although i would easily rank this 90/100.

Also what the fuck is Mike Howe doing this days? get back dude!.

Wow, surprised to see so many agree with me! I was preparded to come in here this morning and defend my position. Glad to see there are some other educated metal heads that realize this as well.

To be honest, I'm not sure how underrated this album is. Mostly everyone I know who's into Metal Church loves it. Maybe it was badly received when it first came out or something, though, and has been accepted over time into the metal canon of awesomeness.

Yeah, this is probably my favourite too. I'd really like to see a reunion with Mike Howe.
