The 90's and 00's. 90's mainly for death metal, 00's for everything else.

It's really hard decision, but when I think about it... 00's are getting my vote!

Me too. 00's is my personal fave.

BTW, both the 70's and the 90's have exactly the same votes (2) and the 80's and the 00's have also (8)...... creepy :P

Eighties, the latter half especially. Metal just turned more and more extreme over that decade, rather interesting to see.

I'd say the 80's. That's when metal started to develop a real self-awareness and consciousness, started to realise it's own potential and push the limits of the artform. I love many bands from all decades, but the 80's were really changing things and pushing towards all the great things that emerged in the 90's and 00's

In my opinion metal has been amazing this past decade. I can't wait to see what is ahead. I'd definitely pick the last decade as my favorite and most definitive.

The 80's for 7 reasons... Iron Maiden, Killers, Number of the beast, Piece of mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in time and Seventh son of a seventh son.

Nothing personal, but saying Iron Maiden was the only good thing about the eighties...

I don't see where he said they were the ONLY thing good about the 80's.

Where I say that?
In the 80's I was a teenager, and I grow with metal, with Iron Maiden, but also with all NWOBHM, with Scorpions's Blackout, with Dio Holy Diver & The Last in Line, with Manowar, with Baron Rojo and their hymn Resistiré, with Obus, with Angeles del Infierno, with Kreator, Sodom, Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Judas Priest, with Helloween, Keeper I & II, with Venom, with Magnum, Triumph, Barricada, Los Suaves, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, all these bands are the soundtrack of my teenager years.

But excluding all that music, and a hundred more, just for these 7 albums, I prefer the 80's to other decade.

And in every decade there's a lot of incredible metal.

I voted 90's, mainly because of black metal which to some extend got fully explored back then. And if u listen to black metal the 90's helds some of the most essential albums.
However, crappy rap nu-metal shit also appeared in the 90's which smears the decade, but during the 00's that trend seems to have died out.
I like the 00's alot also, even though creative and original music is hard to come by near the end of this decade, at least with black metal. This doesn't mean it can't be good, it just means it probably will be forgotten within 2 years of existence - unlike some of the early black metal albums.

I went with the 80s and with good reason. But to pick what would be second place would be hard. I like the death metal of the 90s, I like a lot of the newer bands and older bands coming back and releasing stuff in 00s. But the 70s had Priest, Sabbath, Van Halen, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Motorhead, and Rush. All of those bands (except maybe Motorhead) were at their best in the 70s.

So 80s win, but 2nd place is hard to figure out. For me anyway.

Indeed he didn't, sorry if I was unclear. I just looked at his couple of Maiden albums in his list of seven, and thought "whoa, you could balance that out".

When I think about it, I could just as well have picked the 80's too. And on the right day Maiden alone would change my vote.

80's man. Nothing beats the classics. The 70's is a close second for me cos that's where it all started.
