I think the reason this one gets unappreciated is that it's sandwiched between Taking Over and The Years of Decay. Of the untouchable first five Overkill albums, this one is definitely the worst, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.

Actually this is the only Overkill I have of their early period... Pretty cool album but I should listen to some of the others if they are better.

They pretty much let go of their epic and atmospheric influences

Haha what?

Anyways nice review Thomas but i've never thought of Under The Influence as an underrated album, almost every Overkill fan i know loves it, this is were the band started to sound a little more thrash and a little less speed, and this is also the album were Bobby Blitz developed his distinctive raspy voice, i would rate it a little bit more closely to the 90's but whatever.

Yeah well, I gotta admit that I got that from a pretty unreliable source. I'm not overly familiar with their earlier releases, so I did some research, and some of the stuff I read mentioned that. ...

Anyways, I've got the impression that this is rarely mentioned. When I was asking where to start with these guys, this was always avoided, and rarely mentioned as a good album.. Hence an underrated album in my opinion :)

Well yeah i figured that out, but i think that if you arent familiar with the previous albums you shouldnt have mention any of that stuff just to appear to have knowledge on the band as if to give your review and your score more credibility, i and im sure many readers too always appreaciate a fresh point of view on old classics, you should never hide that you are new to the band it helps to put things into perspective.

And you should really listen to Feel The Fire and Taking Over if you liked this one youre gonna love those two.

I love this album. It's no Taking Over, but I think I prefer it to the Years of Decay. No real reason for that, just personal preference. Drunken Wisdom is the greatest thing they ever did. And of course the main riff to Head First is spine-tingling. Bobby Gustafson is a beast.

Love this album, just like every other Overkill album. When I first heard Shred, I was in disbelief the crazyness level it reaches when Bobby yells Shred and then that's exactly what they do. This is the first Overkill album I ever heard/owned and I love it. I agree with the Voice that this should be closer to a 90 score.

EDIT - he yells GO not SHRED
