I saw Trans Siberian Orchestra last Friday. It was fucking epic. Totally put me in the mood for Christmas.

When Oliva mentioned Savatage, I freaked and threw the horns and screamed "YEEEEAAAAHHHH!" assuming there would be, you know, more than two others in the arena who had heard of Savatage. Everyone nearby turned and started at me. Bah. Fuck everyone.

Favourite Christmas Carols - "You Ain't Getting Shit for Christmas"
Favourite Christmas food -
Christmas List - new Jason Becker CD
What you love about Christmas - vacation and family
What you're getting Cara for Christmas - depends on what she's getting me. Yeah, that's how I roll.
What you hate about Christmas - having no money to buy others present until after Christmas
Favourite Christmas movies/programs - Bad Santa

OMG I did that same thing. Then I looked around and saw a bunch of stiffs/business folk and realized what a bad idea that was. My woman was so embarrassed.

That's because 99% of TSO fans don't realize that the band was formed from members of a metal band.

I bet if you were to tell those business folks that members were part of a metal band named Savatage they would probably laugh at you.

Did Oliva do anything? I bet he appreciated that you were a Savatage fan.

Around here the tradition is still called by its original name -'Jul'- stemming from Germanic paganism, and is not denoted by a christianized name as it is in English. The jule celebrations predate christianity and was originally celebrations of the winter solstice involving many days of festive activities culminating in the midvinter blót in January. A celebration of the lights as the light would then return and the days become longer. The word jul refers to the turn of the sunwheel ((h)jul translates to wheel), which is turning towards brighter times. A pivotal point of the year so to speak. It was also a time for visits from late ancestors, which meant that you had to treat all visitors to your house as family. You never know who might turn up. Many present-day traditions have their roots in the pagan rituals of yore. The ham that many of you are mentioning are derived from the sacrificial pig at the ritual of the midvinter blót and the lights are referring to the lights' return. Of course there were many other rituals and beliefs about this time of the year, but enough blabbering for now.

Favourite Christmas Carols - N/A
Favourite Christmas food – roast duck
Christmas List – don't know; probably some books and perhaps some new boots
What you love about Christmas - the atmosphere, the lights and the decoupling from everyday life and routines
What you're giving Cara for Christmas - a wedgie
What you hate about Christmas – materialism, consumerism, feigned smiles and "merry christmas"-es, other peoples' lip service to imposed christian connotations etc etc.
Favourite Christmas movies/programs – Hmm.. perhaps Black Christmas (original version)

Favourite Christmas Carols: Bob Rivers: Twisted Christmas ( Check into his stuff people, it's damn funny)

Favourite Christmas Food: We do a different meal every year. The only consistent is steamed shrimp. I'm making angelhair pasta with italian sausage for dinner tomorrow.

Christmas List: Tuition and books for the Spring semester. New pick ups for my Parker NightFly, and The Guitar Grimoire guitar course books.

What you love about Christmas: Spending time with my wife and son.

What you're getting Cara for Christmas: Uuumm, saying Merry Christmas..."Merry Christmas Cara".

What you hate about Christmas: Rampant consumerism, rude idiots in stores (and on the roads), the pressure to buy gifts instead of giving of yourself, and not having my mother with us at Christmas.

Favourite Christmas movies/programs : Scrooged, A Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart), FRIENDS Christmas episodes, and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

I really love the South Park xmas episode with the woodland creatures and the mountain lion. :D

My brother bought me a set of screwdrivers because he thinks that I'm mechanically challenged. Then he explains to me what you can do with them. Just because I'm majoring in philosophy and he's an engineer; he is so much better than me.
