Michael Jackson? Free Willy?

There's a joke in there somewhere...

And even if Hysteria is considered a classic album because it was popular and is well remembered, it is certainly not a classic METAL album. It had some hard rock, some soft rock, and a lot of bubble gum pop.
Has anybody said, that it is a "metal" album? But as far that we have here a rock forum area, IMO a hard rock album can be reviewed - and when it's good enough - also as a classic.

Except for boring, monotonous, COMPLETELY meaningless throw-away tracks like "Armageddon It," "Rocket," and that abomination that no self-respecting metalhead would ever play on purpose, "Pour Some Sugar On Me." How did that crap get so much airplay? There's absolutely nothing to any of those songs. No talent required, whatsoever. There are some great tracks on the album, but every time I hear those three songs, I want to kill somebody. And I don't have violent tendencies.

The fact that you consider massive hit singles to be the "filler" of the album only further speaks to classic nature of the album.

Michael Jackson has a lot of hit singles, as well; massive hits don't (always) equate to quality tunes.

He also has a number of classic albums. Coincidence?

And your point is pretty silly, Michael Jackson has a handful of the greatest pop tunes ever written.

My point exactly.
This album is chock full of soft bubble-gum schoolgirl pop, not hard rock, not metal.
And not quality tunes. My point stands.

And Michael Jacksons music sucks balls.

Thriller and what? Off the Wall nor Dangerous are that amazing. They simply have a few good tracks on each.

Haha, don't forget "Bad", now.

No matter where the debate leads in regards to rock v. hard rock or classic v. non-classic, this album was and still remains undeniably HUGE in regards to sales, radio air-play, MTV air-play, concert tickets sold, and the number of singles it produced that charted very high if not reaching a #1 status. The album itself stayed within the top 200 for some ridiculous amount of time that I believe is only rivaled by that of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

Def Leppard's Hysteria was incredibly huge in the late 80's. The biggest of the big. Instead of mind numbingly debating the validity of Def Lep's rock/hard rock status, perhaps instead we should view this album and band for accomplishing the unthinkable by a rock/hard rock band EVER. The added bonus is that they did this 4 years after Pyromania. Any other band would have been left for dead. The other obvious monumental hurdle was that they accomplished this with Rick Allen.

I say good for them. Hysteria will always be regarded as a classic and almost perfect album in my collection.

Haters!

This album is a classic in every aspect. The entire A side is full of hits, and one on the B side. Two if you include "Love And Affection," which was an international hit, never released in the US.

A 12-track album that stayed on the charts for ages, had seven or eight hit songs, has sold a gazillion copies and continues to sell boatloads yearly, and it flipped the entire industry on its keester. Yeah, that's a classic. And beyond that, every song on this one is fantastic. I could probably do without the weird mid-section in "Rocket," but otherwise this is a great 80s rock album.

The best ever, of course.

Now lock this thread. I win.

When I was a kid, I thought the lyrics in that section were "all will die if you do what I think" I used to sing them.

When I found out that it was "were fighting for the gods of war" backmasked. It was like finding out you were raped by an uncle and blocked out the memory, only more emotionally devastating.
