I was so disappointed with this. I completely agree with your review. It's a shame, considering Empire of the Worlds was such a great piece of extreme prog, IMO.

I wish they would go back and make an album similar to Eight Moons which is a masterpiece.

I listen to it and am lulled into liking it by the brutality. But then I notice how bland and how lacking of anything notable the songs are and I'm left with feeling of being used.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how John K just fired everyone from the band right before they made this album. I need to check out their old stuff if it is like this album only good.

Their debut Eight Moons is awesome. Empires Of The Worlds is very good not as good as EM but good nonetheless.

Yeah I'm surprised that no one mentioned the firing of the band leaving John K to hire all new musicians which forces him to train new guys hence a mediocre album.

One of the biggest dissapointments of the year. The review puts it well, although I do believe John K is capable of the melodic stuff as well.

Still, it frusturates me to no end that a band that released something as mind-blowing as Eight Moons puts out another piece that is a technical masterpiece all-in-all but the songs are just not there. I dont know if much of that can be credited to the change-up of members, but still - so much potential not fulfilled.
