Waiting for this to arrive in the post. I didn't hear Carheart but I got it in the strength of the guy's other stuff. Hade Rise is one of my albums of the year, and I've been getting more into VBE recently also. Sounds interesting, at least.

I finally got around to hear this and wow, it fucking slays! Carheart was great (especially the song with Garm guesting, which remains the best song so far) but the new one as a whole just blows it out of the water! A must for all fans of avant-garde.

In a whole different sound, also looking forward to the new Ephel Duath and rumors about a new Age of Silence get me pretty psyched, too.

I agree with most of the review, but I'd just rate it at least ten points higher. It's somewhere in the middle of VBE's Written in Waters and Carheart, particularly the mood of the former with the occasional playfulness of the latter. Still need to get a couple of listens in to take it in fully, though.

Anyone else notice how close this is to Deathspell Omega in terms of compositions?

Just the linearity and the wrong-footing.

The dissonant guitar riffs are somewhat simliar but this in no way captures the atmosphere that DsO does.
