Great review! You feel the same way I do about this. I always loved Haggard (well, ever since Awaking the Centuries). It's a shame they take long between albums but with music like this, I guess it's understandable and they're more than forgiven for the quality they bring with each album.

On RYM, the album got bashed quite a bit with people saying they've gone less metal and there's less extreme vocals and blah blah... like you said, their loss. I personally always loved the baroque sound they have. Those who say they sound the same as Therion either don't know much Therion or don't know much about classical music. Therion may have a bit of baroque influence (on older albums especially) but there's a big difference between symphonic and baroque. Symphonic means what it is. It's a symphony... lots of intruments, huge sound. Baroque is very old, medieval music. It can be symphonic but it can be played with a minimum of them as well.

Either way, anyone with even a slight interest of classical music needs to know this band and needs this. Heck, I know some who hate metal but like this band. Anyway, enough ranting. :P

For newcomers, though... I'd still recommend Eppur Si Muove to check them out. It's their best, IMO.

Never heard of these guys, but you're very selective with high scores Alex, so I'll have to add them to the list!

Awaking the Centuries is one of my all time favorite albums. And I guess I have lived long enough to hear lots of stuff. This is a very quality collective, I can't even call them a band as they have close to 20 members now.

One thing about Haggard.
They had a concert at us, so I went to look, and thought it wouldnt be as good as on CD, because 4 musicians have trouble working together and Haggard had around 20 of them. I was shocked  . IN A GOOD WAY.
Haggard is a live band, their live performance was the best I ever saw. All of the musicians had a constant smile on them, waving to the public and connecting with the crowd. The sound was tottaly different then on CD, more richer and better, the guitars were heavier too. It was excellent! The songs sounded heavier, and the soprano singers really showed the true potenital of their voice. During the concert the guitarist went down to the public and pleyed alongside them :dio: . After the concert the whole band mixed with the public and it was really nice to see that, not some band which leave 10 minutes after the last song.

No CD or DVD can give you the true experince of what Haggard really is, you have to be there and see it yourself.

I like Haggard, but I've got a real problem with this record... I hate Mecano, and including "Hijo de la luna" cover in this album almost kills it for me. I always skip that track.

C'mon Ganesha... Hijo de la Luna is a good song. Maybe because it was a big hit in spain your kvltist tendencies reject it...

Perhaps it's a teenager trauma of my high school times, when pop fans get all the girls and heavies didn't have any ;) . But I can't stand Mecano and similar bands of that time.

I wish I could be there. What country was it in? I don't think they ever toured the States. Too expensive probably.

Haggard has a great fanbase here in México, I saw them live 3 years ago, fantastic performance, and they were really cool talking with the fans and partying after the gig. :dio:
