I don't like Trapped Under Ice and Escape... The rest is among Metallica's finest tracks.

Trapped Under Ice is a fucking great song... Up there with For Whom... and Creeping Death as the best on the album. Oh, and Fight Fire with Fire as well. So it's in the top 50% anyway

The vocals are the only lacking aspect of Trapped Under Ice for me. Still an awesome song though.

the vocals do it for the entire album IMO, I can't really listen to it without having to turn my volume up because Hetfield is a weak singer.

I hope you mean in terms of volume, because in early Metallica Hetfield had shitloads of 'power' in his vocals.

Take everything he says with a grain of salt. He's a tool.

Hetfield basically got twice as good vocally with each album up until blowing his voice out on the Black Album.

So while a big improvement vocally over Kill Em All, he still wasn't the badass he'd become in the late 80's. He's still a bit nasal here if you ask me. I think thats what (whoever posted it) was getting at.

I like his earlier voice the best, it fits with the rawer sound of Metallica. But it all comes down to opinion.

not from my perspective, but it is in part of the volume as well. I can't get into that cd because the vocals are underproduced aside from the song fight fire with fire.
