I am speaking of Stewart Lee and Richard Herring's "Richard's Corr Shrine" sketch. Watch the youtube dude, you're one of the people I posted it for :)

Well, it's like "a bit of Fry and Laurie" withouth the wit...
Is everything that childish and unclever?

Sorry, in future I shall stick to mature and non-childish humour that isn't really funny but which makes us feel clever by watching it.

Don't take it the wrong way Chuckie, Fry & Laurie had their share of childishness too but they were a lot funnier than the bit you pointed us to.

Well, I disagree, but if you don't like it let's talk about something else..... like......

.....the Pogues! Someone should really start a thread about them.

Stephen Fry is awesome but then Stuart Lee's pretty good too, so I shall sit on the fence for this one.

Edit: Darn you, Rio, and your peaceful ways!

I dunno; Fry + Laurie is indeed good but that's a long time ago and nowadays Fry does a mixture of semi-serious documentaries and clever-clever shows that are only a little bit funy (i.e. QI). Not to say I don't like him, because I do, but Stewart Lee is much, much funnier I would say. Mainly for his standup, though...

(I'd be curious to see other videos though... Any other sketch you can point me to ?)

And, about the Pogues, I really hope they go back to their roots and release a brand new album... With Shane of course!

Haha! Notice how I immediately undermine my own "let's not derail the thread further" post within 2 minutes!

Actually Stewart Lee from that sketch is actually far, far "cleverer" than that clip would suggest. (He wrote Jerry Springer the Opera, btw). His standup is really where it's at.

There's hundreds of clips of him on youtube... I like this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTns5_QckHQ

Jazz-related comedy!

(BTW: you won't get the last 50 seconds at all unless you watch the soap opera Neighbours, so ignore that)

I'm sort of disappointed that you don't find QI that funny.

Heh, obviously Fry's comedy is very different from, say, The Inbetweeners (which has kept me and my little brothers laughing for a week so far, so cheers for that!). I suppose it depends on mood.

Well, it depends... I enjoy watching it because it's interesting and amusing, but ultimately I measure comedy in what makes me laugh the most. There's no comparison between QI and the Inbetweeners in that sense. (Glad you like it!)

The Pogues kick ass. I only have their first two albums, but they're great. The weird thing about RS&TL is that the bonus tracks on the remastered edition are better than most of the songs on the "normal" album. "A rainy night in Soho" is one of their best songs ever. There's something very special about hearing Shane trying to sound romantic with his drunken voice

Costello's ex-wife (can't remember her name) is pretty charming on "I'm the Man You Don't Meet Everyday" too.
And the band's version's of "And the Band Played Walting Matilda" has just the right amount of gloom to fit the lyrics.

That's Costello's wife?? I always thought it was Cait O'Riourdan, what with her being the only chick in the band on that album.
And yeah, "Waltzing Matilda" is awesome by them.

She actually left the band to marry him (he was the producer on RS&TL).

Ohh, ok, it WAS O'Riordan, then she left 'em to marry Costello. Got it.

But is it like a whole drum kit? I never hear any cymbals, for example.

You can see the drum kit in the "Fairytale of New York" video. There are cymbals in that song, although they sound quite weird.

Great band. Man, I love irish folk, it's probably my favorite style of music after metal and classic rock :dio:

Kay, so I have to add a drummer to my line up.

And yes, the Wolfe Tones are awesome. "Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man..."
