sometimes i talk to people who seem smart but have terrible opinions about music, but usually if someone can talk about music with class and smartness (anus goofyness does not count as intelligence tho) i agree with them from more often than not, or at least i can see where they're coming from. if they talk like an angry monkey then usually i disagree with most of their judgments even when we like the same band.

I'm sure there's some correlation. There's definitely a sense of elitism involved in many genres, mostly heavy metal and classical.

I doubt it. Even if there's a correlation, there's probably some other reason or maybe it's just coincidence.

...punctuation and taste in music, however, seem to be inversely correlated in noodles' case.

i'm at war with punctuation until it gives me some way, other than footnotes, to insert snarky meta-comments into my sentences. Salman Rushdie uses parenthesis but my English teacher wasn't a fan of that.

Explain it away all you want, but making your posts as legible as possible is a sign of respect to us forum members.

There are many forms of punctuation that would enable you, if you saw so fit, or held it necessary for the transmission of your ideas, to create sub-phrases within your sentence, in order to insert a related cause or tidbit, without starting another sentence and continuing with the initial one in a seamless flow; in addition, semi-colons can be used to add additional information related to, but not dealing with exactly, the same topic as the preliminary sentence.

if he does that then i'm taking up the slack

we need at least one person who doesn't use punctuation, so as to ensure compliance with the great Forum Rules first laid down by an obscure moderator of the earliest forums back in 1223 AD

Did no one notice the brilliant self-ironic humour in my post??

I didn't notice your post because you posted it right before mine, but now I've read it: good job!

The Jazz crowd is about as elitist as it can get.

I get a kick out of writing the longest sentences I can. I loved reading Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I thought you were mocking my reviews; I use lots of semicolons.

I'm a fan of convoluted yet clear writing.

So you WERE mocking my reviews!

Seriously, never quite sure if I should be doing more of this, this or, say, this.

Those are all relatively average in degrees of syntax complexity. I was serious when I said I liked convoluted sentences. You've read "The Scarlet Letter"?

Heh, yes, just derailing the thread to talk about what sort of reviews people like instead. :)

Do that again and you're banned.

I thought we said that to people who had links in their posts?

Lawl. When all they post are spammy links to lyrics sites in every darn post, yes.
