Nice!
This is a fairly eclectic outing for our lads from Birmingham... the trademark heaviness of Tomorrow's Dream, Cornucopia and (the best track on the album) Under the Sun juxtaposed against the bluesy opening track and the almost folkish St. Vitus Dance, the languid Laguna Sunrise... all around a stellar album.
For the third time this morning, well done!

Few would deny that Black Sabbath’s first five albums are classics like no other, and Vol 4 fits into that pantheon of early Metal easily.

First six, surely :P

Anyway, I kind of agree with you that this, while a great album, is more of a "classic among classics"... what I mean is, it's not as good as some of the ones it's sandwiched in between.

My favourite track here would be Snowblind.

Tied with the debut as my favourite Sabbath album. The heavy parts are awesome and the more mellow progressive parts are killer to. At first I didn't like this album as much as the others, but the more I listen to better it gets. This album is most definitely a classic and I think I will llisten to it right now.

Great friggin review! :dio:

Never really enjoyed this one. Only listened to it twice at the most, maybe.

That's your problem you need to give this a few more spins to get it.

There is definitely something that separates this album from the bulk of Sabbath's other work. Of course you can say that the band were spreading their wings, as Sabotage, Sabbath bloody Sabbath are all much different than the band's first three. But this album is much more life affirming, I know this is an odd description but whenever I hear this album that's the vibe I get. Wheels of Confusion begins with a really mournful riff, but ends up sounding almost whimsical in a way. Supernaut is like a lighter version of Children of the grave, as was Hole in the sky on Sabotage. Overall, I'd say this would be the band's best were it not for Master of reality.
