Personally .. yes .. musically no. Priest and Maiden's songwriting is stronger than Motorhead's at this point.

I disagree.. Maiden has been recycling the same stuff ever since the mid-80s.
Of course, Motorhead isn't exactly re-inventing the wheel, either.

With both Maiden and 'head, you know what to expect and that is what you get.
That being said, it's not apt, IMO, to compare the two; Maiden is a metal band . Motorhead is a rock and roll band.
Both bands are awesome in their own right.

I find it to be one of those albums I'll listen to for a couple of days and then put it back on the shelf to be forgotten for a few months.

Yeah, there's nothing to really complain about, but nothing to rave about either. It just kind of...plods.

I've listened to it probably about 6-7 times now .. and I've got to say it's a very decent effort, more than I would have expected from Iommi, although perhaps not from Dio. I count about 5 standout tracks, which I predict will occasionally keep me coming back in the months and years to come.

BTW Fear is probably the best song, slightly more original than Bible Black with some kick ass riffing.

The problem with this one is that there are some downright amazing tunes on it--and "Bible Black" is a classic already--but then there are songs like "Rock And Roll Angel" and "Eating The Cannibals." Just good songs. They pale in comparison. If the whole album was of this caliber it wouldn't really be an issue, but there's no real range between great and okay, you got just those two.

So it can seem a bit disappointing, I guess. Either way, I enjoy every single track.

Huh?

Are you saying that RNR Angel and Cannibals are the weakest tracks? They were amongst my favorites.

An argument I've heard a few times now, that I agree with is the pacing of the album. It could've used "Ear In The Wall" being held over from the Dio Years compilation dropped in the first half (or even right off the top ala Neon Nights) just to break up the plodding pace early on.

It turned out to be pretty much exactly what I expected. Which means not disappointing at all.

Nope. Made no mention of weakest tracks; just that there are a few that stand out head and shoulders about the rest. So I guess I said those are weaker than "Fear" and "Bible Black," I guess, but I wasn't really gauging anything in terms of weakest.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I love Dio era Black Sabbath, but the only song that is great on TDYMK is Bible Black. The rest of the album, as you say, plods along. Too many mid paced tracks all in the good to mediocre variety. Could've used a bit more inspired keyboards as well to change things up - E5150 style interlude for example.

I'm liking it more after additional listens, but not enough, I think, to change my opinion.

Neverwhere is one of the standout tracks .. which are for me (after ~15 listens now):

Fear
Bible Black
Double the Pain
Eating the Cannibals
Neverwhere

RNR Angel and Atom and Evil make the second tier .. and the rest be fillers.

I like the whole damn thing and I'm grateful that these guys got together to record again. I would rather have a few 'filler' tracks than nothing at all from these four guys. This album is fantastic.
