Not necessarily. The "band" can be used as "they", in which case "mix" is appropriate; or "it", in which case "mixes".

I think this band is really cool, but I just can't bear to listen to them anymore ever since I realised Zad had repeated the word "mix" in a sentence.

I'm all for a deliberate bending of the rules of grammar, but only if it has some sort of ulterior purpose. To me, it just read like a mistake, and if I were in Mumakil, I'd take this site all the less seriously for that.
