I wasn't but Cold Lake is certainly their worst which says a lot about how low this band was able to sink.

Cold Lake isn't that bad. Take away the vocals and it sounds like plenty of Thrash released at the time.

Besides, you're ignoring Morbid Tales, To Mega Therion, etc, all classics far more important to Metal than anything John Zorn has done, as influential as he was.

John Zorn isn't metal.
Celtic Frost were never good just lucky to be an "old band". You know I've tried their music, never did it for me... And, please, admit it, Cold Lake IS bad and not thrash.

True, wrong, meh, and it's certainly Thrashy, I'll leave the argument about whether it is actually Thrash for another time. You couldn't mistake it for anyone other than Celtic Frost, certainly.

I disagree that Celtic Frost was "just lucky"... in 84 - 85, they were quite unique and groundbreaking. Probably, along with Bathory, they had more influence on the second wave of Black Metal than anyone else.

I won't ask about Cold Lake, but what did you think of Monotheist, Vanity/Nemesis and Pandemonium?

I've heard both Vanity/Nemesis and Cold Lake once.
They weren't the worst things in the world... mainly they are forgettable.
I have Into the Pandemonium, but never listen to it. Monotheist I have not heard.
I have Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids, Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales, To Mega Therion, Into The Pandemonium, and the 84-85 CF demos (bootleg), all of which are very good.

"Old Band" what the hell does that even mean? I guess you're just lucky to be an old man who gives outlandish opinions and then refuses to adequately back them up. Celtic Frost were pretty revolutionary for their time, they never did the same album twice and the transition from Hellhammer to Celtic Frost sounds like a totally different group.

Cold Lake sucks, and is not Thrash. Even if you take out Tom's horrible yelping on that album, you're left with boring riffs that were borrowed from just about every American glam band. They Were Eagles is the only song that's even close to being worth a damn on that entire fiasco, the rest of it is downright embarrassing. If it was "truly not that bad" they would have reissued it along with everything else. It wasn't, because it sucks and even Celtic Frost themselves know this.

Well what I said above was initial impressions. It's undeniably CF, though, and just because they're ashamed of it doesn't mean much - Al from Ministry hates his 90s albums, although they're pretty good. Certainly not a good album, though, it seems more like Pandemonium gone very commercial.

monotheist is pretty much the only album i've ever thoroughly enjoyed by celtic frost, I've heard To mega therion and a bit of more of their older stuff and its good but it doesn't give me that same bleak feeling Hellhammer and Monotheist do.
