there is a few parts on War without end where he is obviously straining to keep up with the speed of the music. I don't honestly think hes that bad there is a lot worse thrash vocalists out there.

I don't even understand these statements. How can any real fan of thrash say this? His voice fits the music perfectly. This isn't power metal or epic doom metal here. What kind of singer are you guys looking for? Dude has a classic thrash voice.

They can't appreciate Thrash for what it is, but want some real experimental industrial black metal or something.

The vocals on WwE remind me of, for lack of a better description, metalcore growls. Sue me if that's a shitty comparison.

If Death vocals are sounding like metalcore, then it's metalcore  - but the first thing a friend said, when he listened to them was: Warbringer are sounding like a thrash version of Obituary.

And thrash is probably the closest relative to metalcore.

Doesn't mean we have to like a vocalist that sounds like a metalcore reject.

I agree totally. It's not like every vocalist can sound like David White, who is an anomaly in the Thrash scene, in that he can actually really sing. Also, I'm going to get a lot of hate saying this, but you could put Rob Dukes in front of a metalcore band, and he wouldn't sound out of place at all. You want a truly bad vocalist who sounds out of place on a metal album of any form, much less Thrash, look no further than Dave Padden.

nah man I actually agree with you there, I can easily see Dukes in tight pants, a combover, and a Suicide Silence shirt.

Dukes could easily front a metalcore band. At first it was really hard to accept his as the new Exodus singer. But I like him a lot more than the guy from Warbringer. I know thrash singers are not suppose to sound like perfectly trained machines, but that doesn't give them the right to be annoying as hell either. Something the guy from Warbringer is, annoying as hell.

And yes, Dave Padden sucks very much. IF Annihilator ever releases anything decent again, it will be completely ruined because of him.

Ok, seriously, this kicks fucking ass.

I liked War Without End....yeah, I liked it. But I listened to it a few times and then pretty much went back to listening to Evile\Fueled By Fire\Bonded By Blood.

This is on a WHOLE other level. I could tell from the debut that they were probably going to be truly awesome one day, but I honestly didn't see it coming this soon.

I'm listening to this relentlessly. I've been away from metal a while, this has got me back in a big way.

...Oh, and the last minute and a half of Senseless Life....FUCK YES.

Im going to forget the whole "I've been away from metal a while" comment and just be excited that you have returned.

So...

He's back!

Hehe, sorry there man.

I guess it happens to the best of us. What can I say, i've been smoking a lot of the good stuff, and I guess my listening just got a little more...uh, chilled...for a while.

All it was ever gonna take was one impossible to ignore album, and this one was it. Now I have some catching up to do.

You'll just have to believe me when I say I haven't even heard Hordes of Chaos yet!

I guess I understand what you are saying. I am pretty much in the same boat.

This sums up the last 2 years of my life "What can I say, i've been smoking a lot of the good stuff, and I guess my listening just got a little more...uh, chilled...for a while. "

Sabbath while in that altered state is just unbelievably good.

Oh, and get on that Hords of Chaos. My favourite thrasher of 09 so far.

Oh, yeah, I know all about it.

But I mean...my listening got REALLY chilled.

I've been listening to, like, psychadelic experimental ambience, like Pete Namlook and Adham Shaikh, and, uh, lots of spacey shit from the 70's like Tangerine Dream and Popol Vuh. So not metal at all.

Ultra chilled was the order of day. Or months, as it were.

I never went that far out... The closest I got to any of that was Pink Floyd. Me and my friend were driving home from a concert in the city one day at 3 am, both incredibly stoned. I put on Pink Floyds Dogs. About 11 minutes in, my friend turns to me and says "this shit is fucked". I just laughed and turned it up even louder.

Yeah not the safest thing in the world, but we had one hell of a good time.

Yeah, it's the best isn't it?

I've always liked proggy spacey stuff, almost as much as metal.

What I've found is in the last 3-4 years, moving further away from high school, living the university life-style, I smoke more and more bud (been a very regular user for a few years now) I eat mushrooms a little more often....

And metal slowly becomes a day time thing. I still love it with all my heart, but when the sun goes down, and my mind floats up, I need something that's gonna help me trip balls, excuse my french.

Still, on the iPod at work, and driving in the car, and, yeah, generally during the day it's still all about riffage.

Also: I apologise to the mods/anyone offended if this conversation is inappropriate...

Ha

Don't be sorry, they all do what we are talking about.

I understand what you are talking about in the spacey stuff, but I remember when I use to have to walk home from work. The walk would only be 20 minutes tops, but I usually would smoke up with some co-workers before going home. And of course, walking home I need my iPod. So I use to listen to a lot of old Megadeth on the walk home, but the 2 albums that did the best for me to "trip balls" were Iron Maidens Killers and Morbid Angels Altars of Madness.

Next time you smoke up, listen to either one of those with your headphones on. The only way I could explain the Morbid Angel one to my friend was, the riffs were like punches to the face by a transport truck. It truely was amazing. Oh and the drumming in Ides of March is very very trippy.
