I find some tracks to be a bit boring, particularly the last three. I'm surprised you didn't mention Significant Other and Lonely Child, those two songs are stellar - the former approaches David Gilmour's solo work like nothing else.

The earliest PT I've heard is Deadwing, and then everything following that one. What else should I check out?

Edit - No, I'm wrong. Everything from In Absentia to Fear of a Blank Planet... now what else should I check out?

Oh dear. I'd try Signify or Up the Downstair. Be warned, it's radically different, much more laid back, with no metallic influences. Or you could work your way down the discography, in which case you could pick up Stupid Dream. Basically, there's very little PT has ever released that isn't worth your while, except perhaps Voyage 34.

I've actually really been digging the mellower stuff, so this is good.

Probably the mellowest album is The Sky Moves Sideways. Also worth picking up. It's your choice.
