Heh. Haven't seen it. Is it terrible?

It's called Twilight, what do you think?

Well, I don't know. That's why I put a question mark in my original post (even though it was obvious that Zad didn't like the film. I was more interested in why he thought it was so bad).

Name a film without an attractive woman in it that isn't some experimental Indie tripe.

So in other words, a regular move with no hot women? Hmm... Walle? I see what you're getting at I believe. Fair point. Never thought about it much before but you are on to something. :)
Were there any women in The Shawshank Redemption btw?

Ah, right. No memory of her looks though.
It's quite a sausage fest when you think about it.

Put it this way; in Twilight the vampires are vegetarian, and rather than burst into flames when they go out in the sun the sparkle and glitter. They only turn people into vampires if the wuv them and don't want them to die. And the Edward Cullen character that the 13 year old girls are going crazy over has a gigantic head.

Tell me that doesn't sound terrible.

The Wrestler. This really seems more like a late-90's film than a late-00's film IMO. Probably because sports dramas (Varsity Blues, Remember The Titans, etc.) were actually quite popular at the time. Nonetheless, it's a great movie. And I strongly suggest you all check it out if you haven't already. Particularly if you (like me) are an unabashed fan of pro wrestling.

The Wrestler was hardly a late-90's style sports drama, and has nothing in common with their formula.

Yeah, I was gonna say... how in the hell is the Wrestler like Remember the Titans?

It's an okay movie, even if a bit strange as you stated. Never had a huge thing for Michael Douglas but he's the right man for that role.

Probably the only movie where i can say Michael Douglas is good.
His father was 100 times better.

Really liked The Wrestler, great performance from Rourke and a pretty badass soundtrack to boot. :dio:

Scanners.

The lead in this was really, really bad. I get that he was a scanner and was "barely human" but I don't feel this quite justifies how bad of an actor he was. Michael Ironside was cool, though. And the classic head explosion was, well, classic. This is a movie that, in the right hands, I wouldn't mind seeing remade because I thought the concepts were pretty cool, but the execution could have been better, particularly when it came to overall acting. I'm not sure how I felt about the whole "computers having nervous systems" thing, though. Also, the movie seemed rather "small," I guess you could say. There were several times throughout the movie where people would stand around and talk about larger ideas or actions, and I would rather have actually seen them. Being focused isn't necessarily a problem, and I understand the budget was likely quite limited, so I'm not too upset by this last gripe. It does perhaps add to my desire to see a good (stress on good) remake of it. Or perhaps a television show.

Speaking of television shows, I believe that there were plans to make and HBO series of Preacher, which would have been AWESOME, but now all we'll (potentially) get is a movie. Which is alright though. And speaking of Cronenberg and Preacher, there was a preacher in Nightbreed who looked almost dead on for Jesse Custer. Nightbreed was a cool movie, too. Which reminds me that someone is remaking Hellraiser. Different French horror directors keep bailing on it though. The dudes that made Inside were attached to it at one point, which would have been cool, because Inside was fucked, but then they left only to be replaced by the guy who did Martyrs, which I have not seen but is supposed to be pretty fucked up also. He's gone too, though, so to continue this trend I think either Alexandre Aja or Xavier Gens should sign up.

Please don't mind my rambling/incessant name-dropping. I'm kind of tired and wired on caffeine right now.

Wind Chill - the first half was promising but it quickly got predictable and a bit boring, like many movies in this genre tend to be (horror/thriller). After the movie ended I sat there thinking what the story really was about. But an okay film, nonetheless. The odd thing was, even if the movie itself wasn't really great, the actors did a solid job. Emily Blunt was good in her role and probably the only reason why I sat there all the way through. 5/10
