I would say it's because some of the mid-paced riffs sounded way too simple and uninteresting (most riffs are fast though), and the overall song writing, while varied, was very typical as far as progression (just a bit too simple). It also doesn't push the Melodic Death envelope, it just takes established sounds and styles and does them extremely well.

It is good but not great, quite simply. There is nothing truly stunning about the album but they dont do anything wrong.
